The Djavelo (Diavelo) electric bike was announced at the beginning of 2006 with a futuristic specification:
16.4 kg weight
Shaft Drive
40-60 mile from a Lithium Polymer battery
400W motor
£999
and listed on the UK site, Powerscoots. After missing the launch date early in the year, the bike has since been listed as 'unavailable until further notice'.
However, Schwinn Bikes in the USA have recently launched a new range of electric bikes including the 2007 Continental:

Upon first glance, the two bikes look almost identical. A to B magazine suspected in a recent issue that perhaps the bike hadn't been invented yet. So perhaps it looks like the bike does exist after all. Powerscoots are quoting the bike is in production although the motor will probably have to be different from the quoted 400w to comply with UK regulations.
