Current Rating: 6.5 / 10

Reviewer: Tony Flecchia
Purchased From:
50 Cycles
Purchase Price:
£745.00
Time Owned:
2 Months
Local Terrain:
Very Hilly

Strengths:
Powerful hill climber, even 1 in 8 with ease. Cruises at around 15 plus without any pedalling. Great for shopping with large panniers as load is held low so stable. Very comfortable despite no rear springing on the two model.

Weaknesses:
Single gear so continuous pedalling only really practical up to about 14 mph. Fairly large when folded, make sure it fits in your car boot.

Summary:
A good universal utility bike that's always ready for the odd journey, since no cycle clips etc needed and good mudguards and flaps protect well. Practical even for longish runs, and will even tow a trailer in moderately hilly country.

Overall Rating:
(8 / 10)

Purchased From:
NYCE Wheels
Purchase Price:
$1,300
Time Owned:
2 Months
Local Terrain:
Very Hilly

Strengths:
Good acceleration immediately after recharge; good acceleration on flat surfaces.

Weaknesses:
Lousy battery life-hills appear to rapidly deteriorate battery

Summary:
If battery's current pattern continues, the life span will be only 6 months-making this bike an expensive disaster

Overall Rating:
(5 / 10)

Please let us know how many times you have recharged the battery in those 2 months, and at what point related to green, yellow and red lights you decided to recharge. Also, what is your estimate of how much of the battery's capacity have you consumed in these two months, and how much different does the bike's acceleration feel between the 1st recharge and the last. Thanks (my battery failed temporarily while going up a steep hill. I had to push it to the top. Testing on the battery revealed it had 8.5 ah left out of ten and this was after 7 recharges. The dealer says this is normal, but I do not believe it since the battery would be no good after 35 or so recharges...

Good bicyle for performance, but big battery problems. After 10 months and about 70 recharges, the engine began to stall on hills or into the wind. After another 10 charges the bike will stall after about 4 miles (from full charge) and not switchon again.

Your question does not quite match my comment; but the battery history is as follows: after 10 months & 70 recharges, the battery began to fail on hills, but then recovered. My usage has dropped a lot and in the intervening 10 months I have probably only recharged 10 or 15 times. Nearly always I have recharged after at least 15 miles and when the battery is dead. Currently the battery behaviour is erratic. After a full charge it shows red during acceleration, or any slope, or into a small wind. It sometimes stops altogether for minutes or hours and then revives. It switches between red and green and never shows yellow. I think it is continuing to give me up to 20 miles, but I cannot risk commuting to work (9 miles) for fear of total stoppage.

I have a Quando II. Pros: real fun, real zippy and high quality. Cons: It's heavy - and doesn't fold up THAT small. Are there really people taking these on buses & subways? The bottom shelf of a shopping cart isn't going to hold one. These need to be 15lbs lighter and half the price to catch on. Not fun to carry up or down stairs, folded or not.
