Q. Is a pedelec road-legal?
A. Yes, as long as the pedelec conforms to the following:
  • As a rider, you are over 14 years old

  • Motor is rated maximum 200W or 250W for a trike
  • The cycle does not weigh more than 40kg

Speed

Q. What is the maximum speed of an pedelec?
A. In the UK, pedelecs are not permitted to exceed 25kph (approx 15.5mph) by motor power alone. That means you, as a rider, can only exceed this speed by pedalling.

A. No, there is no legal requirement to wear a helmet.
