Q. Is a Pedelec road-legal?
A. Yes, as long as the pedelec conforms to the following:

  • Motor is rated maximum 200W or 250W for a trike

Speed

Q. What is the maximum speed of an pedelec?
A. In the UK, pedelecs are not permitted to exceed 25kph (approx 15.5mph) by motor power alone. That means you, as a rider, can only exceed this speed by pedalling.

Q. Do I need to wear a cycle helmet?
A. No, there is no legal requirement to wear a helmet.
