Halfords
Purchase Price:
£699
Time Owned:
 1 Week
Local Terrain:

Moderate Hills
Strengths:
Almost as light as a conventional bike. Small battery (2.7kg) neatly stowed on carrier behind seat, light enough to make carrying a 2nd battery feasible. Low price. 5 speed hub gear protected from dirt. Nicely equipped MTB.

Weaknesses:
Low power output, moderate rider effort required. Range only 15m. in speed mode or 20 m. in economy mode. Pedelec only.

Summary:
I test rode most of the more powerful bikes & realised I am fit enough to only require gentle assistance.
The Sram Sparc system makes the hills around Edinburgh much less daunting & increases my speed by 4-5 mph. Climbing long hills is no sweat, with swift pedaling I can stay above 7 mph even on the steepest inclines. 28 mph is possible downhill though the motor cuts out at 15 mph.
I will buy a 2nd NiMH battery which is light enough to carry thus ensuring total discharge which is best for NiMH. I hope these 2 batteries will give better & more flexible long term service than  1 big lithium battery
