Hi Mary and welcome Lovemesexy.
Ranges have taken a huge leap recently, in tests in New Zealand last week our new set up in peddle assist, achieved 90km in wet and windy conditions in the hills and 110km on flatter terrain in the dry. This was due largely to the new high efficiency 200w motor we are using and our 36v 14a lithium polymer battery. Anthony who did the tests is 6'2 and weighs 12st. The 25kph (15mph) governor was on at all times.
Best regards David

My bike will do 1000km if I pedal.

Under average user conditions, most e-bikes can't expect more than 30 miles, and many are still at 20 miles or less as Mary says. With a large degree of rider input, a select few can reach 50 miles or just a touch over, but that does mean around 50% of the input from the cyclist rather than the motor.
That's fair enough of course, since they are electric assist bikes, not electric bikes.
Examples capable of those longer ranges are the bikes using the Panasonic unit with the latest 10 Ah battery, and the Wisper new 905 series with their 13 Ah battery that David speaks of.

Wow - that is a heavy load. What a bike! Thanks for the reply. I think I'll have to give a trailer bike a try. If I put my daughter in a rear seat I have a feeling I'll be doing wheelies up the steep hills here (Bath)!

Yes, you've got some really steep ones there!
Make sure your daughter does a bit on the trailer bike to help.

I'd love to but our youngest is only 5 weeks old, so we're staying put for a bit.
cheers

Hi StrangeFish, and thanks for your welcome a whole 120 posts and 6 weeks ago (oops, sorry!). I've been too busy for my own good - and been on holiday in France which was nice, ... so not had a chance to "try out" anything - or to check the forum for a while. But despite my plan to try something and then work out exactly what and when to buy, I saw a Sakura S305 "shopper" e-bike for sale locally, as brand new, for a really good price, so went and got it anyway! Hope I get on well with it then! Just had a quick go round the block this evening when I got it home. It is a bit strange getting on a bike again after so many years, especially one with smaller wheels and what feels like a shorter wheelbase, and with a slightly top heavy battery, and a rather heavy frame... But despite some early wobbles (and swerving to the right when setting off!), I am optimistic. Several short trips round the block in order this week before I start meeting a bit more traffic. I'll keep you posted (although may be another couple of weeks!). It was encouraging to see your thoughts about getting onto your new Agattu, StrangeFish - I trust you're enjoying riding to and from work regularly now?

New to forum
Have just found the site, via a motorhome link, and finding it interesting, we have had Giant La Free bikes for 5 Years and thought we would upgrade them for new La Free's but on looking around came across the Shwinn Stream Line, which we have had since last September, absolutely love them they are so light, and the battery well we have not been able to run i out in a day yet. We have just come back from touring Scotland for a month with the motorhome, and cycled well over 250 miles on the bikes, and every one a pleasure. Carol.

Fantastic Site
Hi all, I was looking at this sight last Friday just thinking about a Pedelec but not serious and saw the notice for the rally so I drove up from South Wales on the Sunday to try a few out and watch the race. Some fantastic bikes and people and in the end I bought one (ordered) on the day from Lloyd at 50 cycles (ouch that leg). Some great advice on here haven't stopped reading it since Sunday.
Thanks

Greetings
Hi I'm a new member and new to the electric bike scene. My interest was prompted by the imminent loss of my driving licence and have been researching suitable machines for a couple of months now and have posted a thread for advice from the experts on here.
I cycle a lot anyway so it isn't going to be a culture shock reverting to 2 wheels solely for the next 9 months.
I live in the Worcester area and the main use will be to commute to my local station about 5 miles away and I invisage that I shall remain a committed pedelec even after my licence has been restored.
I went to Presteignec2008 and tried a few bikes and had an enjoyable day and hope to be kitted out with a machine by early June so any advice would be appreciated
All the best
John M
