Default PowaByke 24 Speed Commuter Owner Reviews

Reviewer: Ross Phillips

Purchased From: Adventure Cycles, Guernsey

Purchase Price: £778

Time Owned: 3 Weeks

Local Terrain: Some Minor Hills

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strengths:
This bike is an excellent hillclimber, even the steepest hills can be riden up with minimal effort. Plenty of power.

Handy battery indicator on top of frame lets you know how much juice is left in the battery.

Robust build quality. Built like a tank ! but weighs in like one !.

Price - A bargain for the price, there are electric bikes which cost alot more than this one.

24 gears - might sound excessive but you will need them if you want good downhill speed ( I found with the 6 speed Powabyke Euro my legs were going like the clappers downhill to get up any speed ! ). Also low gears great for steep hills.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weaknesses:
One of the heaviest electric bikes. This might be an issue if you have to carry it at anytime.

Not the fastest bike for acceleration.

No front suspension.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
An all round excellent bike with plenty of power. Ideal for people who have to tackle minor to moderate hills on a regular basis.

Great value for money.

Overall Rating (out of 10) : 8

Retailer: brooks cycles-fleetwood

Purchase Price: £750

Time Owned: 4 yrs

Terrain: Flat

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Strengths:
Long range(with new batteries)
well built
powerfull brakes
good top gear

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Weaknesses:
heavy
plastic parts brittle-ish
nightmare to pedel if batts flat

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
This is the second Powabyke I've had in 7 years, so can't be that bad.
Not the coolest looking bike but I've never had any negative remarks about it(mostly the opposite).
Never let me down,ever.
Front brake is really powerful and has to be at 40kg.
With NiMh batteries would make it more user friendly.
Have to be careful in winter as the bike is top heavy and can slip from under you whilest getting on.
For a brushed motor it keeps on pulling under load with newly charged batteries.
I got 16 months use out of one set of batteries(used daily)motor run out of steam when batteries are half down.
Only really tested on the flat but has good gear ratios so hills are do-able with peddeling.
I am making my own ebike so will not replace with another, a bit pricey at £850.
does what it says on the tin!
