I'm not aware of other options in super lightweight low assist hub motors

Both of which suffer from difficulty in supply, high price and questionable reliability (or so it seems from my UK perspective)

Am I out of date ? Are there others out there?

Q85, Q75, Bafang SWXU. Keyde have a new bigger motor. I don't know if it's any good. We need someone to try it.

The Q85 is for narrow forks. The Q75 is like running a Q100 on 75% power.

Q100, Q100H and Q100C are still very light - about the same as Tongxin.

Q75 & Q85 for narrow front dropouts, the 75 is 1.2kg and 85 2.2kg respectively.
Then things get a bit heavier and larger SWXU and variants approx. 1.9kg or heavier.
d8veh beat meet to it.

The 75 and 85 seem most interesting then

I thought the tongxin was lighter still (but I've never seen one )

The Q75 is for normal 100mm drop-outs. Only the Q85 is narrow. The Tongxin is about the same size and weight as a Q100 or SWXU,

SWXU 1.9kg
Q100 2.2kg
Q75 1.2 kg
Q85 1.6kg
Old Keyde 1.4kg (with controller)
New bigger Keyde 2.3kg
Tongxin 2.3kg

Thanks d8veh that's really helpful and interesting

I had in mind that tongxin were much lighter than they actually are

Though the narrow fork 85 weighing more the normal fork 75 seems a trifle odd? I have assumed the narrow fork version is for road bikes rather than mtb

The Q75 is smaller diameter than the Q85, and the Q85 is not as wide as the Q75. The Q75 has the lower volume and weight.

The Q75 has different diameter spoke flanges, so you need two different spoke lengths to build a wheel.

The big drawback for me is none of these motors have a UK supplier so the shipping costs nearly as much as the motor and any aftercare would be difficult.

It would be great If a quality UK outfit, like Oxydrive, would offer their kit with the Q100 motor as an option.

Although not as robust or powerful as the Bafang CST, with a weight saving of 2 kg, I'm sure it would be very popular with lighter/fitter riders.

Hmmm! The shipping cost doesn't matter. It's the overall cost that counts.
Those motors are easy and cheap to service yourself, not that anything ever goes wrong with them, so there's not much need for any support.

Agreed ......except it's the intermidable waiting ! The Chinese slow boat ain't no Amazon prime:)

It's nice to have a choice.

Which with the lightweights we don't really get so much

They have a warehouse in Belgium if the stickers on the box can be trusted. All my packages came from there in any case, not China.
