Just about technical, I think.

I've bought a Pragmasis chain. Not thief-proof, but then nothing is.

But it is HEAVY - around 4kg. My bike, a Dave special, is well balanced, but I think a 4kg lump of metal on the rear carrier might make it back-heavy.

Thus, I'm wondering whether carrying the chain on a FRONT carrier might help.

Would it help, or are there problems I'm not foreseeing?

Ta.

Any chance you can fit it within the frame triangle?
Having it at the front carrier will affect the handling

If you go to thread below, 'Help wanted with Boss etc', page 3 message 50, there are pics showing triangle already filled by battery!

Ahh ok

Well the only central point to hang weight on then is the rider !

So chain in backpack?

Why not the front rack idea? What's the fault that I'm missing!?

On my mortorbike, I often wear my chain over my shoulder. On my bicycle, I wrap it round the handlebars. I use an Oxford Revolver, which is quite heavy, but not as heavy as yours.

Dave, does your handlebar version mean that it doesn't affect handling particularly, or are you just careful?

I suppose in the absence of a definitive answer, it'll be suck it and see - I do have a nice light Blackburn front rack mouldering in the shed.

I've never noticed any detrimental effect, but it might be different with 4kg.
