This came through to us at work:

78% of cycle collisions in Portsmouth occur at junctions and roundabouts. A startling statistic considering Portsmouth has more than double the Hampshire average of bicycle commuters.

TJ Transport Ltd are proudly hosting 'Exchanging Places - Cycle Safety Event' to communicate with Portsmouth cyclists the factors that influence this statistic; factors that may surprise even the most seasoned cyclist. We will also demonstrate ways in which HGV operators, like us, are making the roads safer with the help of innovative technology installed in our fleet of bulk haulage vehicles.

Whether you are a leisurely cyclist or a daily commuter, or even considering starting cycling, this event caters for all. Information and guidance will also be available on cycle security and maintenance - provided by Hampshire Constabulary and The Bike Doctor
Saturday 30th August - Portsmouth Guildhall Square 10am to 4pm

I'd have thought it obvious that roundabouts & junctions are lethal _ All the cycle lanes cease to exist 5 to 10 metres from them...
And that's exactly where they are needed.
