banks hold money, which is not food. You can't do anything concrete with money.

This mornings note from our currency broker..

"Sterling fell below the 1.20 mark against the US dollar in early trading as markets reacted to the latest Brexit news. Over the weekend both Prime Minister Theresa May and Chancellor Philip Hammond reignited fears of a hard Brexit, with Hammond even threatening the European Union with UK tax changes which would effectively turn the country into a tax haven."

The thing that I notice is that they describe the feelings about a hard brexit as "fears of a hard Brexit" if it was anything business was positive about, surely they'd be saying "hopes of a hard Brexit" or even if they were trying to be neutral they'd say something like "reignited expectations of a hard brexit"

Things really don't look good, and I'm normally too optimistic!!!

it's only because the vendor is willing to accept it. The value of the computer record that says your balance is x, is what you believe it's worth.

Yes, that is correct but at the risk of boring readers, conditioned to only reading headlines and receiving subliminal, politically-inspired messages through advertising and news broadcasting, there's a short article by Einstein - the universally acknowledged clever clogs from the early 20th century - which describes very well, both capitalism and a situation alarmingly like the EU and large trading blocks generally.

It was first published when I was but a child but it's just as relevant today as it was in the 1940s:

There,s going to be lots of arses in co op windows when Brexit doesn't bankrupt country..
It actually doesn't have to achieve much , after all the doom from remainers...

My currency broker reckons pound will bounce back...and he,s bigger than KTMs.

If investors really thought Brexit will ruin our economy they,d be selling stock and buying gold( or whatever they think is recession proof) Fact is reverse is true. FTSE ,100 and 250, are thriving...

Not a good guide though, FTSE 100 in particular is multi-national dominated and not regarded as an indicator for the UK economy.

Multi-nationals will be unaffected by our choice, for them it's swings and roundabouts. Make money here or make money there, it's all the same to them.

You still haven't understood at all, have you? rarely is there someone who only thinks in terms of money, and unable to see beyond personal profit.
The economy is not what is at stake, but you are not able to understand what is are you?

I believe the "Economy" will set itself at a lower level, not enough to harm the Parasites that prey on it, as you seem keen to do, but to the great disadvantage of normal people living normal lives.
And their rights, privileges and the environment will be set back over fifty years in short order.

Or are you brave enough to suggest everyone will be better off?
If not, then you have nothing of value to offer, have you?
Brexit is worthless if everyone doesn't gain from it in EVERY way.
It is a gamble by the rich intended to benefit them alone

You are of no value to the nation if you put yourself before the well being of others to enrich yourself.

Here is something for you to consider, how do you imagine the average person in the street views people with your money first attitude?
And if things go wrong it would be wise not to be so "smart" in public where money is concerned.

Its not me KTM who needs a currency broker to tell me what pound is doing..

OG...Hope co op in Hull has a big window...
Why are you expecting to be on show there? my predictions tend to come true, as I don't listen to the advice of selfish idiots.
What the pound does is of only passing interest to me, it is significant, but irrelevant compared to what is at risk, but then you are incapable of understanding that, aren't you, and what is worse you lacked sufficient wit to vote to prevent what is coming.

I might make a trip over to Hull in order to take in the spectacle. Do you think that the Co-Op would be kind enough to organise a rotating podium for OG to stand on?
Very amusing tillson, but may I remind you I have not been involved in this silly argument about the rise and fall of the pound? so how have I been roped in on this nonsense?

In case you have Forgotten I will say again, only the rich will benefit from Brexit as was intended all along.
And the American trade deals will end up destroying the NHS. (so much for the £350 Millions boost)

Now it's your turn, tell me everyone will benefit, how much and how soon?
When will the "Goodness will flow" you have told us all come about?
Remember that statement?

So far the only people to benefit have been the Lib Dems, or haven't you noticed?
I wonder why that has happened?

Tomorrow we shall see how well Mrs May succeeds in kidding both sides in the Brexit dispute that all is well and there is nothing to fear.
A conjuring trick that the late great Paul Daniels would have envied.

Who will be the most disappointed? my guess is that the mantra "follow the money" is a good guideline here, and it is likely to result in people who voted for Brexit being offered fine words, even promises perhaps.

Then will come article 50 and much obfuscation giving the impression that Brexit is Brexit
And then? what will emerge is a form of Brexit that in reality "its own Mother wouldn't recognise" will be the end result.

Why tillson himself expressed the same belief way back in the early days of this thread, despite his fantasies trotted out since.
He expected the powers that be to not permit Brexit to happen back then.

Brexit will be "An equal opportunities disappointment" for all but the top 1% of the population, the only good Brexit is one that has been discarded as a bad idea.

the obvious benefit is tax cuts for companies and individuals who can invest.

Tax Cuts for companies mean less money in the Public purse of course, and poorer services, which in turn lead to tax increases on the lower orders to make up the shortfall in Revenue.

Only the biggest investors will be so far up the income scale that they are in a win-win situation, as the lowest members of that particular food chain face the same rise in costs of living as the rest of us.
Basically, as I said, only the rich will benefit.

Did you all spot this in the news.....or did you gloss over it because you thought it unimportant?

http://www.thecanary.co/2017/01/16/uk-just-alienated-entire-world-leaving-one-special-ally/

The kind of government that would destroy the NHS and would take the UK out of the EU against the wishes of almost half the population has given its blessing to the continuing atrocities committed against the Palestinian people by the Israeli government - in whose name? Certainly not mine. Yours?

Today is "Free Beer Tomorrow Day!"
Mrs May will announce the following
  1. We will force the EU to agree to our terms
  2. We will have a "Special Relationship with them exactly as we want"
  3. All Workers rights will be respected (easy when there are none)
  4. The environment is already so good to help the farmers we wont bother about it any more.
  5. The NHS will receive massive funding increases
  6. Our Navy,Army, Air force, police, will all work harder at less cost and successfully close our borders
  7. The government will control immigration (resulting in an increase of numbers that will not be reported as such)
  8. All will be sweetness and light and the Remainers will see the light of Brexit shine upon then and rejoice at the new opportunities Brexit will provide. Hand in had with the Brexit voters we will strive together for a better future.
  9. She will wave a piece of paper when returning from a visit to the EU Parliament and announce "Peace in our time!"
  10. Today is officially announced as "Brexit Brotherhood Day!"
Of course little if any of that will come true, but surely no one expected it to, did they?
