Hey i dropped my bike in a very awkward way and the weight of the bike fell on the power cable connecting my motor to my battery, cut right throught it.

luckily no power was on at the time, but im trying to find out, can i take that motor apart and replace/splice that cable and anyone know what type of cable id be looking for?

i checked the motor itself, its a chinese brand Suzhou Xiongda Motor Co., Ltd any help would be appreciated.

your best bet is to resolder the severed motor cable.

Or use the opportunity to fit a connector into the cable to make rear wheel removable easier

Show us a pic of the wire break and position.

But in general have to agree with Woosh,if there is enough cable length to play with.

Replacing the motor cable isn't an easy job an not to take on likely, getting the hub open is your first issue. It will be easy or involve some cursing, once open the next problem is being able to get the cable through the hollow axle shaft and then very neatly solder all the wiring in place and heat shrinking in position. This will mean removing any binding material from the motor windings etc to get at the phase and any hall wire/connections, after this you will need to bind it all up again neatly to keep all the wiring safe and secure. Not a job for the faint hearted a lot of patience will be required.

I didn't want to worry him too much. He may be lucky, if it's just a 3-pin motor cable.

I've repaired those wires on a couple of motors. it can be done, but it's very tricky and requires a fair bit of patience, determination and care. It's probably best to get a new motor. If you get the same type of motor, you don't need the whole wheel. You can normally take the core out of the motors and swap them over. Show us some pictures of the motor so that we can identify it.

It's worth ringing Ebikes-direct to see how much a replacement wheel is. It might be cheaper than buying just the motor from China.

its a 9 pin connector, with 9 individual wires in the middle, where iv cut through the cable was right at the axle bolt for the wheel - it fell sideways whilst i was repairing a pucture, cut right through it, not enough cable to pull through the hollow.

knowing myself im not the most patient of people, i think a new motor may be best!

ebikes direct said they can send me one for £150 - but was wondering if im going to buy a new motor, is it possible to attach a better one to it? my concern is the fittings to the controller as they are also nine pin. controllor sits under my battery holder.

You can fit any motor, but you won't necessarily get more power because that comes from the controller and battery. You can get a different power profile by using a different speed motor. A slower one will give better climbing and a faster one will help maintain a higher speed at the cost of efficiency and climbing power. the one you have is probably a good compromise.

Another option is to upgrade to a cassette motor if you want better gearing. this one would work out a bit cheaper, but then you need to rebuild the wheel:
