Looking for suggestions for a low-ish speed, high-ish torque front hub motor to go with existing 48v kit

Thanks, I'll get a picture. The issue is that the coupling slots into a custom QR skewer and has to be secured from the outside, exactly where the cable comes out from a hub motor.

Looking for suggestions for a low-ish speed, high-ish torque front hub motor to go with existing 48v kit

Many thanks for the reply - I should have mentioned this in my post - wheel size is 700c and yes, probably 15mph would be a good target speed. No suspension forks; the bike is a kind of flat bar hybrid.

Looking for suggestions for a low-ish speed, high-ish torque front hub motor to go with existing 48v kit

Hi folks, A couple of years ago I did a rear hub drive commuter bike conversion, detailed here: https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/q128c-25mph-fast-hybrid-commuter-build-ride-report.29244/ I ended up with a 36v rear hub motor running at 48v thanks to the excellent advice from the forum...

Battery charge monitor vs. LCD charge monitor: which to believe?

Thanks all, I'll try the power button double-press trick and do some torture tests on my battery. By the way, is this P5 parameter thing documented anywhere? I can't find any reference to it in the user manual, which is brief to say the least.

Battery charge monitor vs. LCD charge monitor: which to believe?

Quick question: I did a longish ride yesterday and when I arrived back home my LCD was showing one out of four bars of charge. But when I pulled the battery out and checked it using the button on the side it lit up three out of four LEDs. Any guesses on which is more likely to be accurate? For...

Best way to climb a hill for battery/motor health

Thanks all for your replies, my bike is a hub gear with PAS sensor so max assist it is. It's a very short hill so I think unlikely to affect range much, just wanted to make sure I wasn't stressing the bike unnecessarily.

Best way to climb a hill for battery/motor health

OK, possibly a silly question, but I'm going to go ahead anyway :-) There's one big hill that I have to climb on my commute, and I always wonder what the best setting is to climb it, from the point of view of not stressing my battery/motor. My vague understanding is that the motor likes to be...

Can anyone help me ID this connector on a battery pack?

The second ebay link looks like it might be worth a punt. Not sure on the rating though: the listing says 10A @ 400V AC, my controller is max 25A @ 48V DC and I am not confident to even begin to calculate whether that rating is sufficient or not :-)

Can anyone help me ID this connector on a battery pack?

That's what I'm using right now, but the connector out of the base mount is obviously designed to be in a solid mount and not at the end of a cable - i.e. it has no shielding for the incoming wires, no strain relief and no good place to grab it to pull it out of the other connector.

Can anyone help me ID this connector on a battery pack?

I'm trying to figure what male cable connector I need to plug into the female connector on an Eclipse Whale battery pack. Here's a pic of the female connector: I ended up not using the provided frame mount (which this connector would normally...err...connect to) so I need to wire the...

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

It's metal all right, but very soft and the splines are so shallow that the tool just started chewing them up as I turned. It had probably been way over-torqued by whoever installed it (as happens annoyingly often with bikes... that's a rant for another day.... RIP my knuckles as I try to get...

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

Found a bit more time to work on the bike today, and had another shake-down ride. I've soldered the motor leads (power and sensors) directly to the controller, and re-routed the cable in through the bottom of the bag as per Nealh's suggestion. This removed quite a lot of unnecessary cable length...

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely take a look - I'm pretty sure this won't be the last frame bag I buy. Looks like this: https://www.alpkit.com/products/stingray would be ideal for storing battery+controller with room left over!

Don't worry, I can do a good impression of working hard for the benefit of anyone watching :-)

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

Thanks all! I put a washer on the inside of both sides as I read somewhere that it was better to have a larger surface area to clamp the axle between the dropouts. If they're not needed then I might remove them and re-align the brake caliper as you suggest, it would certainly make getting the...

Which kit? 12 mile range, 20mph, hub motor, city bike

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

__Fitting everything else__ With the motor on, the rest of the build went pretty smoothly. I fitted a frame bag to hold the battery and controller. I was originally going to use the very nice frame-mounted battery bracket that came with the battery, but I am sometimes going to have to leave the...

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

__Fitting the motor__ This was by far the trickiest bit of the build process. I got the motor already built into a wheel, and the build quality was OK, nothing special. The spokes were very loose compared to what you'd get from a proper bike shop. Being quite light, I'm not too hard on spokes...

    Q128C 25mph fast hybrid commuter build/ride report

Executive summary: here's a pic of the more-or-less finished bike: 25mph on the flat @ ~600W, 20kg bike weight. Warning: long post comming up :-) This is mostly a brain dump of everything that I did for my recent build in the hope that it will be useful to somebody else considering the...
