    50 cycles new store Altrincham

That's probably a bit optimistic. a 11kgs bike would probably have a carbon fork, and some very narrow wheels and tyres.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

That's the relevant part for the Consumer Rights Act, which is valid for goods bought since the 1st October 2015. For goods purchased before the 1st October 2015, the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA) applies, and does not include that one attempt condition to repair or replace.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Is there really such thing as a 2.2 version? Apart from the 50 Cycles site, I can't really find any reference to the Impulse 2.2 motor, even on the Kalkhoff site. On the 50 Cycles site, when you look at the full specification pictures for the various bikes (example: Pro Connect i10), the...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

The one chance to repair is indeed from the 2015 consumer act. However, you are still protected under the Sale of Good Act (SOGA) prior to that. It does not state that the merchant only has one chance to do a good repair, but it states that good sold in the UK should be of appropriate quality...

    Alternatives to Gtech ebikes?

Hi, I like the look, weight (15kg) and price (less than £1,000) of the Gtech sport bike. However, the only concern is that the bike is single gear. Are there any other bikes on the market that are lightweight, cost around the same price but have a few gears? I would like to cycle on a few...

    Gtech whistle

One question I have is: where do you get parts from, or your Gtech bike serviced, as they only seem to sell online. Do they have spare parts available to order, and partnership with local shops?

    Kalkhoff back light not working

Maybe it's the connection/cabling between the rear light and the front hub dynamo, or the light got some water. I would try to connect a battery (not sure about voltage, check the Shimano dynamo specification) directly to the rear light first to check if it works.

    New Gtech Mountain Bike

While the standard city model is I think well priced and well made, their mountain bike version doesn't seem to have anything special, and should indeed be below £1,000.

    Gtech

The sentence was "...looking forward to a trouble and near maintenance free winter" The joke is on you for not being able to read a full sentence.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

It's interesting indeed to see that 50 Cycles have chosen to develop a new bike, based on the Impulse 2 motor.

Raleigh are increasing prices by 10% as from August 1.

You will need to explain that one. Unless inflation reaches 10% (imported inflation), or people spend a lot of time abroad, I don't see how the crash of the GBP has made people relying on a wage or pension poorer... Even if inflation was reaching 10%, it wouldn't make everyone of those people...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Compact Impulse 8?????

I believe Shimano is a Japanese company, although most of their products and parts are probably not manufactured in Japan...

    This mornings Sunday Times

On a Kalkhoff bike that weights an average of 23-25kg probably, it's kinda difficult to go much faster than the electric assistance cut-off, which is at 17mph. Therefore, an electric bike on the flat going at 25mph is a bit suspicious...

    So,can I return it if I don`t like it?

If you keep all packaging and are careful when testing the bike, maybe all you need to do is replace both tires, to make it "new" again. If you know how to do it yourself, shouldn't cost too much. You actually have the right to unpack the goods to assess the quality.

    Bike insurance

...and most will exclude liability insurance while cycling and/or using electric bikes, so many people will need a separate liability insurance.

    Interesting news re Kalkhoff........

Similar, yes and no: they had a fix for it, and sent you the new wheels to permanently solve the issue.

    Absolute newbie to e-bikes!!

Sounds great. However, if it's storing only 6 bikes, and only costs £30 per year to the user (which is very cheap, and also probably does not cover at all the cost of the equipment and its maintenance), I suspect all of those will be full very quickly, with long waiting lists.

    Interesting news re Kalkhoff........

But couldn't the "faulty" wheels just be replaced by better, more robust third-party versions, at a fairly low cost? It sounds like this was a different type of issue, compared to the Impulse II motors, which cannot be replaced by any other type of motor (Kalkhoff or otherwise).

    Interesting news re Kalkhoff........

If you are looking for a company name that sells electric bicycles, then 50 cycles is a good name. Electricity (mains) is delivered at 50 hz, or 50 cycles

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Yes indeed, I think people doing a high mileage and pedaling hard (i.e. providing a lot of input) are likely to have higher rates of failures, as the motor will deliver its maximum torque. People doing 10 miles a week at low speed on flat paths will probably not suffer frequent motor failures...
