    Converting a Birdy Folder

My Birdy Bafang has now done just over 600 kms since the conversion 25 days ago. No problems, no regrets. Fitting was about four hours pleasurable project with no snags at all. I did experiment with putting the battery in a bag on the rear rack. Found that a little lacking in 'streamline'...

    Converting a Birdy Folder

Limited fold of course. The rear wheel will come around and stops against the motor about 180mm short of complete fold. So its a compromise. Made do with just the front wheel fold for the photo experiment. In the back of a Freelander as shown here .I could live with that. I rode...

    Converting a Birdy Folder

I have fitted a Lekkie 42T ring. Not too low on gearing for me. I have a three speed hub with 8 speed cassette. Before 'electrocuting' it I had a 56t chainring. Far too high a range so I changed that for a 48T. Even then I still never used the high gear in the hub. I thought I might with...

Not sure how you got on with this intention. Have a look at my (5threeone) post on a similar project. In its embryo stage as of December 15th but aiming to be completed by Dec 21st. I will post then and be glad to pass on my findings. Its completely DIY with a kit...

    Converting a Birdy Folder

So, Has anyone converted a Birdy yet? I am looking at a mid drive and putting the battery on the rear rack. Up to this date my investigations have not come up against serious obstacles. However, I am being cautious and await the experiences of other Birdy owners.

    Almost decided. Or have I?

Glad to be of help (and influence) Another couple of changes ('improvements' I have made was to reduce the width of the handlebars. I took of 25mm each side. Too wide (for me) and now feels a bit more sporty. I changed the sprocket from the supplied 16 to a 19. That lowered the whole gear...

    Almost decided. Or have I?

I am now just 77. I can sympathise with the difficulties your are having. I spent a few months researching electric bikes and particularly folders. I think I looked at pretty well everything on the market. Finally I settled on the Qwic. Why? 1. The quality of build. It IS DESIGNED and does...

    Almost decided. Or have I?

Some guidance here in the link below. In my fifth month of use now and nearly 2000 kms of faultless riding. Qwic smart E Urban. Lovely quality machine. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/news/tour-world-70s-electric-bike/

    QWIC Smart e4 Urban 7

Recently, in the winds I felt a bit too "sit up and beg" at times. I have been used to a conventional touring machine before going electric. A little more aerodynamic. So today in forty minutes wielding the hacksaw I reduced the stem length by 30 mm. Now my bars are just below saddle nose...

My Qwic Electric folder has now done 2500 kms. In 6 months. It has been faultless. More than a few people have commented on the quality finish. My own observation is that there is not another folding electric bicycle that comes anywhere near it. Never less than 80 kms on a charge. I did...

What should I buy as my first e bike?

Have a look here at the link below. I have no trouble getting 50-60 miles on a charge and over some severe ground too. Winter will not be so good with lower temperatures of course. Have done over 2000 kms in five months in all weathers. Faultless. Get a spare charger for in work or carry the...
