Registering an e-bike as an e-moped w the DVLA

Hi Flecc The Model 60 is not really meant as a serious bike but for someone interested in speed or technology it is great fun. The torque is colossal- I'm told you can spin the rear wheel going from 40-60!!! Our Model 30 City is a much more practical proposition and they are selling out before...

Registering an e-bike as an e-moped w the DVLA

At E Rider we sell both EAPC bikes and more powerful electric scooters. All of our scooters have EWVTA. There is no doubt that the market for bikes is bigger but for some people 15MPH is just not fast enough to meet their needs. We are looking at a new model scooter which has a 72 volt lithium...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

It was only possible to ride along at such slow speed by "dabbing" the throttle and that would not have been possible with a pedelec. If you disbelieve me I'll challenge you to a slow riding competition!!!!

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Hand throttles are safer and more controllable. I had my bikes out in Tenerife earlier in the year and was able to ride them in the middle of large groups of slow moving pedestrians by riding the throttle. It would not have been possible using pedals.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I am assuming that all the froth generated in this thread has been in vain? The updated EAPC guidelines on the Government website state as follows EAPC requirements The requirements are: the bike must have pedals that can be used to propel it the electric motor shouldn’t be able to propel...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I wonder whether we are not getting ourselves in a lather over very little here. Having reread the EU Directive the following would seem to be the case. 1) It is true that pedelecs (E bikes without a throttle) are specifically listed as being outside the scope of the Directive but then so are...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I'm not sure poor UK e-bike sales can be put down to our bikes operating on the throttle as well as the pedals. UK riders have always been able to pedal if the wanted to. Regulation is rarely logical but the requirement to obtain type approval for one type of electric bike but not another makes...

    What should i buy? Trike/eped/allseasons emotor/ e scooter moped..

Nick It's not fair to say that at all. I have no problem with you posting on forums saying that your bikes are great (apart from the fact that they were illegal until the recent change in regulation I have no reason to doubt you). But to try to sell your products by rubbishing the opposition...

    UK/EU E-Bike law - and associated confusion, a UK manufacturer’s perspective

"On a pedelec, which is what was being posted about above in answer to the OP, a fully acting throttle is illegal now and has been since 6th April 2015, so the law was changed." Just not true. "The prior EAPC regulations have no relevance now in this respect, so it is you who is being...

    UK/EU E-Bike law - and associated confusion, a UK manufacturer’s perspective

Yes Mike, you are right of course. The police are not sufficiently clued up to know what needs to be a registered and what does not, however as a responsible supplier it is not reasonable to encourage your customers to break the law. We are often asked "how do I adjust the controller to make...

    UK/EU E-Bike law - and associated confusion, a UK manufacturer’s perspective

"Any independent acting throttle permitting the full speed range is illegal." Not in the UK it's not and to infer it is misleading. Independent throttles have always been legal under the EAPC regulations in the UK and this remained unchanged following the recent amendment. It look as if...
