nexus 7 versus nexus 8 versus derailleur

IGH is the way forward for ebikes imho, that is until the manufacturers get there act together and start building the gears into the motor, like on the continental ebike. Of course I am only referring to crank drive ebikes. I have been riding a regular pedal bike for the last 14 years, and...

    Clever new Rohloff e-shifting

On the contrary d8veh, by combining the two, there would be an overall weight loss, compared to current set up's using the Rohloff Bosch combination, like what R&M do. If it works for Continental, then it work even better for Bosch & Rohloff. Trevormonty, I don't see the cost as an issue, if...

    Clever new Rohloff e-shifting

Been riding my Rohloff none Ebike since 2004, and the SpeedHub just gets better as each year passes. I like the idea of the E-14, although is it realy nessacery, one day I may buy a Ebike with CD drive, and the plan is to remove the antiquated derrailure system and use my Rohloff SpeedHub. To...

    Completely new to E-bikes

If you can live without the throttle, have a look at the Halfords Carrera Crossfue or the Cube Acid, both use the same Bosch CD motor, both only just over your budget.

Rohloff uses experience with using one "Thinking about buying one

Yep, I would keep with a chain, in fact back in 2004 I bought 4 of the Rohloff SLT-99 Chains, and I am still on my first one. Sadly the Rohloff SLT-99 Chain is no longer made, as the machine that made the chains had come to the end of it's servicible life. And to be fair the SLT-99 was never a...

Rohloff uses experience with using one "Thinking about buying one

Yep Mac, I did read about that problem, but thankfully my Rohloff which I got new back in 2004 has never suffered such an issue. Although when I first got my Rohloff I stocked the workshop up with 1lt of SpeedHub Oil and 2lt's of Rohloff Cleaning Oil, the Oil came in a cylindrical tin back...

    Help me choose please!

One for the OP to look at is the Halfords Carrera Crossfuse, well under budget at £1,600 and uses the Bosch Active Line+ Crank Drive motor, although battery is just 400wh, although I would not have thought that to be a deal breaker in anyway.

    Thule Easybase and bicycle racks

Yep the Thule easy base looks a good system. We got the Thule EuroClassic Pro about 15 years ago, which has been a brilliant piece of kit, it can take upto 3 Bikes, but is also compatible with the Thule Back Up Box 900, we got the Back Up box for a trip to France back in 2008, but soon sold it...

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

Suprised no one has mentioned the Halfords Carrera Crossfuse at £1,600 ticks all the box's for a Bosch Crank Drive Ebike commuter bike.

First Road Legal S-Pedelec in the UK?

Fantastic post David, a superb solution for commuters, I always thought having a "S" Pedelec legally on the road was a none starter in the UK, as there appears to be no specific bracket for them. Do we know if you still have to wear a motorcycle Helmet to keep legal, or will one of the specific...

any impressions on the Carrera Crossfuse (or the Bosch Active Line Plus)?

Well got to see a Crossfuse in the flesh for the first time this week, at the Ashton-Under-Lyne store near Manchester. I liked the blue finish, and the 700C tyre's looked great for commuter use, on the whole this bike ticked all my box's. Although I did think the £1,600 price tag, is a bit...

any impressions on the Carrera Crossfuse (or the Bosch Active Line Plus)?

Yep good spot Eddie, £1,615 for the Cube Acid 500 makes it a no brainer in comparison to the Halfords Crossfuse. Although I can get 25% discount from Halfords and possibly the same with Tredz since Halfords bought them out along with Wheelies, due to having a staff connection at Halfords...

any impressions on the Carrera Crossfuse (or the Bosch Active Line Plus)?

I noticed that Tredz now have the Cube Acid 400 at £1,600 same price as the Crossfuse from Halfords. Although the Cube Acid 500 is tempting at £1,800 from Tredz. Oh to do!

any impressions on the Carrera Crossfuse (or the Bosch Active Line Plus)?

Yep, someone on here did buy one back in early November, guess they may see this and give comment. I have been keeping a close eye on the Crossfuse, but the £1,600 price tag did not move for either Black Friday or Boxing Day sales. So I doubt that situation will change for the January sales...

What's the deal with frequently broken spokes?

When I first had my Rohloff igh built into a 26" Wheel back in 2004, the advice given was to use Plain Gauge Spokes as they would be stronger for my Touring Bike. This proved to be totally wrong, as on my first tour that year, a couple of Spokes broke, in fact one even broke when the bike was...

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Well, I got my Rohloff SpeedHub back in 2004, cost £500 back then, done a few tours from Manchester to Scotland since then and it has never skipped a beat. I wonder how many derrailure cassettes, mech's and chainring's I would have gone through in 13 years! And even today my Rohloff SpeedHub...

    Brooks saddles

Yep, love my Brooks Swift Ti saddle, gave it an overdose of Brooks Proofhide at the start back in 2004, and it soon formed itself to my derrière! Check out Gilles Berthoud version of the Brooks saddles. The Gilles Berthoud variants are better engineered imho.

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Well it's a worry that I have explain this one flecc, but here goes. To my mind the idea of an Ebike or Pedelec Is to have a bicycle that is as close to riding a regular bike, but with some assistance but still have the feel of using gears but via a CVT or IGH, and I just think that the...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Nice photo Azzuri, first proper image that I have seen of the bike, am sure Halfords will do well with this one. If I get a Crossfuse, I will be fitting a Tubus Fly rear rack, and going for Gilles Berthoud Mudguards, got both those items on my current none ebike, and they both do the business...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Well done Azzuri, I was thinking that there might be a price drop on the Crossfuse for "Black Friday" this week, maybe not at £1,600 but I will be watching it closely. Will be great to read your views.
