For those who believe in Miracles a Self Charging Ebike

The Vello bike that charges itself! Vello Bike+ harvests power from the rider's braking and pedalling, using it to recharge a lithium-ion battery. Vello claims a fully charged battery provides constant pedalling assistance lasting around 20 miles (32 kilometres). The bicycle can also be plugged...

Experience of Running a 24 Volt Viking Eco stepper at 36Volts

The bike and it's battery is starting it's Fourth year, and though still holding enough charge for 20 miles, it occurred to me to look round for a new battery, and having seen an earlier thread where someone had done so, replaced the 24v 8AH battery with a 36v 8AH one, a simple matter as they...

Have you ever been asked this question?

I biked over the causeway to Lindisfarne on my Sparticle equipped ancient Brompton, and rode onto the little pier and a small group of people watched as I lifted the saddle and tucked the back wheel underneath to park it. "I've seen one on BBC 2 being made "offered one chap. "Is that one of the...

A really well over the legal limit bike this!

I biked down to a little bay close to the Caravan site called Traeth Bychan and there was a middle aged chap with an Ebike. The motor in the rear wheel was black and about 18" diameter. We got into conversation and i mentioned the motor, "Isn't that above the 250 watt limit?" "Dunno he replied...

A Simple way to get sheep to get out of your way

No new equipment needed, just do as I did today. I descended the hill down into a little North Yorkshire Village called Little Beck, not having noticed that hidden in the bushes were two signs denoting that the first first part of the hill was 25% And the second 33% By the time I had reached...

DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

"The Department for Transport has today confirmed to Pedelecs that an ordinary cycle, already ridden on public roads as such and subsequently converted to a ‘twist and go’ electric bike, will not require type approval." What an ingenious Government we have, that can come up with such a...

Has anyone experience of long term reliability of quick connectors?

The reason I ask is I have a Sparticle Brompton conversion, which relies on having to disconnect and re-connect the Motor, throttle and display each time the bike is folded etc., Also is repair or replacement of these connectors (if needed) expensive? Thanks for any help/ advice.

Motor noise on a new hub motor

I have a new Front hub motor that runs smoothly yet as well as the normal hum in operation has a slight but noticeable intermittent "chafing" noise rather like a brake block catching, shut the throttle and the noise disappears completely. It comes in between 10 to 12 mph but goes above and below...

    Experiences with Slime sealant

Years ago I tried slime and in one of my Brompton wheels found when it finally went down there were fourteen places where it had been punctured at some time or other. This encouraged me to inject some in the tyres of my Ebike, which had Kenda Tyres. Before too long the front tyre went off with a...

My attempts to solve a power fading problem on my Viking Eco Stepper

The first step was to dismantle the cover over the controller and attempt to understand the many wires. I first checked the connector to the motor and finding only three leads concluded it was one without Hall effect sensors, so began looking at the mass of wires. Two were unused The power...

I solved the intermittent turning off on my Viking Eco stepper

As it was obtained second hand and out of guarantee, i put up with the fact that now and again the system would just shut down and you had to turn off the ignition, and switch it on again, most times it would then run OK. I solved the problem by buying a new battery casing platform complete with...

Fitted full mudguards to my Viking E stepper

As the ones supplied were no very good at all! I got the new ones from SKS (Bluemells) and had to do a bit of "modding" to fit the rear one as there's nowhere to fit the sliding bridge or bolt the bottom of the front end of the mudguard to. I got over it like this. by pop rivetting the bridge...

Having a Brompton converted to Ebike

A week ago i obtained a Viking Eco stepper folding Ebike and yesterday folded it (it sort of collapses really) and it was such an awkward and heavy package when folded, it filled the boot of the car, and looked vulnerable to damage. The design as a folder is very poor, so now I'm looking at...

Hi, I'm from Hull, 71 years old and just getting back in the saddle

After an enforced lay off due to being unable to tolerate a bike saddle after prostate cancer. However I invested in a two part saddle and it works for me! I had been riding with one on my Brompton folder and a friend has swopped my Honda 125cc scooter for his Viking eco stepper, and so i have...
