One hour to go for this cracking bike :)

When I wanted to test battery capacity, etc. a few years ago I wired up some dichroic MR16 bulbs. Each is 12V, so 2 in series is fine for a 24v battery, 3 for a 36V. 50W bulbs in series draws 4A, 35W 3A. If you want a higher draw, just wire up combinations in parallel, e.g. for a 36V battery if...

    Panasonic 26V Charger for sale

Thanks flecc. I was concerned that there may have been some more modern 26V batteries that were not compatible with my old charger for some obscure reason. The listing is here by the way: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201268233162

    Panasonic 26V Charger for sale

Hi all, it is a long time since I have been on this forum. I mainly ride a non-electric bike these days, short trips to shops, etc., but still take my ancient Lafree Twist Lite, with external lithium battery, out for an occasional spin. Anyway, I was having a clear out and found the charger for...

Kalkhoff Agattu C8 Impulse - one for the hills!

That power assist curve does look gentle. Possibly a bit too gentle if it starts to power down at only 12mph. Still better than a sudden plummet though. I wonder what the curve would look like if the magnet on the rear wheel were to fall off?

Kalkhoff Agattu C8 Impulse - one for the hills!

Thanks you for posting a very informative review. As an owner of a Panasonic system bike, I do like the idea of separating power assistance from cadence. I am curious about the power restriction though. How is the speed actually measured if not by cadence? e.g. is it measured using a...

Kalkhoff 2012 electric bikes at 50cycles

Has anyone seen any technical details of how the new impulse drive system works? From the web site, I understand that it has 3 sensors, but cannot find any details anywhere on-line.

Almost joined the 50mph club, 49.28!

I hope you all have good frames. Having the frame snap in two the way mine did the other day could be fairly painful if you are touching 50 mph. 14mph was bad enough.

    Giant Lafree Snapped!

Thanks to all re advice on the frame guarantee. I will contact a Giant dealer next week about this. Hopefully I still have the original invoice somewhere! I have not collected the bike yet, but could see that it was still where I left it this morning. I sorted out IzzyB's bike last night...

    Giant Lafree Snapped!

Hi Tony, I am not sure the size, but the main tube on my Lafree is definitely oval and without measuring it I think that 6 x 4 cm seems about right. Thanks for the information on the frame Tillson. I had not thought that there still might be a guarantee and the dealer I bought through is...

    Giant Lafree Snapped!

On my way in to work this morning my beloved Giant Lafree Twist Lite snapped in two. It is the step-through model and the frame broke at the bottom. I was late for work as usual, going up hill at about 13-14mph, on the south side of Southwark Bridge. Naturally I hit the road quite hard...

    Giant Lafree Twist Dilemma

Hi, I have a 2004 model Giant Lafree. It has done over 20,000 miles and I have replaced the rear wheel, front wheel twice, chainwheel and countless tyres, inner tubes, chainsand rear sprockets. It is an excellent bike and you will be unlikely to find a worthy replacement for under £1000, so keep...

    Lights (again, sorry)

This is what I do. Low power LED flashing plus brighter steady light. My new light is superb by the way - much better with the 18640 battery than the AAAs and incredible value at less than £8. These CREE LED lights are by far the brightest bike lights I have owned, much better than the older...

    Lights (again, sorry)

I bought one of these last week for £7.94 + £2.94 delivery. The price on ebay is currently wrong and I have informed the seller. eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace It came in about 2 days and I ran it on AAA batteries. At maximum brightness it is very bright for about 1 hour and then slowly...

    BMSBattery sucessful purchase

My 24v10Ah BMS battery is still going well after about 100 charges. What is the weight of the little frog battery?

So how does this work? And how is the bike speed limited?

Quickie SLIME question (ready done tubes or DIY?)

Seems the best answer to me. Slime may well deal with your puncture, but if it fails, then a roadside repair is called for. Even with a non slimed tube, this is not always easy. It is bound to start raining, or your fingers are covered in chain grease etc., you cannot find the actual...

Quickie SLIME question (ready done tubes or DIY?)

I have only ever bought the pre-filled tubes so cannot comment on the bottle. I have had puctures that have been gummed up by this stuff, so I continue to use slime, but I use M+ tyres as well.

Electrical power measurements on my Agattu

I just noticed in the graph from the Agattu manual - Cadence cutoff 71! Anyone know details of how the other crank drive systems work, e.g. Bosch. Do they all have similar power graphs to the Panasonic, based on rider torque with a power down slope between 2 cadences? Or do some have a power...

Sourcing a Kalkhoff 18Ah Lithium Battery

Has anyone any experience of the longevity of these batteries yet? I suspect that it is still too soon to tell, but I would be interested in any news on this.

Electrical power measurements on my Agattu

All really interesting! It looks as though the 2011 Agattu is straining the limits of legality. I think you are allowed 25kph + 10% tolerance. However, the power assist at these speeds is fairly negligible so it would be silly to declare the bike illegal. The 35T chainwheel seems well matched...
