I want to buy my first eBike but I am overwhelmed by so many choices. I don't know where to pay attention.

A friend has a Halfords Carrera folder which he's very happy with after 6 months. It costs £850 and you can have 48hour free trial and 12 months free credit. The range is 31 miles and weight 18 kg. Battery guaranteed for 2 years. Worth a try?

    High mileage

So he says. He bought it new and did 20 miles a day commuting for nearly 5 years since when his wife has ridden it. There was no odometer. Why would he overstate it?

    Best legal eapc hill climber

I think they will pedal when they can but don't want to get stranded when their energy runs out.

    Best legal eapc hill climber

It IS legal for use. The bike needs type approval if sold new with a full throttle useable.

    Best legal eapc hill climber

No, all these supply a throttle to plug in after purchase, which keeps the bike a legal eapc.

Looking to get an affordable bike with throttle

I'd go for a Wisper. Under £1k at the moment. Throttle works if you just twiddle the pedals and probably can be reset by dealer to fully pedal-free use. Excellent backup by company and boss who posts on here.

    Elise Electric Explorer from bicycles4u

My choice would be the Ezee ex-demo.Give Cyclezee a ring. He is a decent bloke who once GAVE me a whole lot of spares for my bike free. That Ezee bike will be good on hills and last well. A good battery too. Best wishes.

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

Logically, in my view,a conforming EAPC sold new without a working 15.5mph throttle does not cease to be an EAPC if the throttle is activated after sale. It only needed type approval if sold new with the independent throttle active.

    Which bike under £1,000?

£249 is a brilliant price for a 36v 11ah Wisper battery with 2 year warranty. Well done! Which motor is in the 705se and how many amps is controller? How noisy is the motor? I could be tempted myself!

    Which bike under £1,000?

Hi Laoura, From your list I would pick the Wisper, especially as you have a local shop offering you a test ride. From years on this forum David M of Wisper comes across as the most helpful of all the brand owners. That 705se seems excellent value too and their throttle is the best legal one at...
