    Whoa

As the wind was stopping me from opening the side gate I took it as a sign to take the car :o

Rear puncture on Wisper 705 SE

I think its powered rear. It's nice to know that in the current economic climate, there are companies that are doing so well they are willing to turn away business that may be ever so slightly more involved than the norm.

What would be on your short-list?

For looks alone, the Cube EPO. :)

Excellent job on the battery box. :)

    Powacycle Salisbury brakes

Opinion seems divided on cut off switches and at first I didn't really see the need, however, after a couple of months of riding I do think having at least one is a good idea. When I first got my bike I was always using the throttle, probably due to the novelty of it on a bicycle, but as time...

Brakes question (Disc compared to V)

I also favour disc brakes and currently run hydraulic 160mm on the front and cable 180mm on the rear. Ideally, I'd have hydraulic on the back too but I wanted to keep the power cutoff facility on at least one lever. Opinion on brake type will always be divided as, as already mentioned, it's...

    E-bike evolution and future predictions

Liking the shot of the very rare X-wing Parrot ;) The theory of cosmic irony would have us believe that in a parallel universe there is a digital SLR forum discussing eBikes :)

    New bike+Kit verses off-the-shelf

I've enjoyed personalising my Alien Aurora so much I kinda wish I'd gone down the custom build myself. :) Although it is a valid point about aftersales support.

    35mile winter commute - help

Given the speed & range criteria, I don't think it is. :)

    35mile winter commute - help

It's also bloody heavy and it'll take a fair amount of leg input to maintain a speed of 20-25mph on anything but flat roads, not to mention the reduction in range if using high power full time. If you're fit enough to get those speeds I wonder whether the motor is going to be of that much...

    Marathon Plus Tour Tyres

My question is if offroad ability wasn't part of the equation, would you still go with these or stick to the original marathon plus?

    Marathon Plus Tour Tyres

Cheapest I've found online is HERE for £19.95 each plus a flat rate of £1 postage per order. I've not ordered from them so I don't know how good the service is. You do need inner tubes. :)

    Modified gear shifter

The problem with the throttle grip is two fold. Firstly is the bulky section that houses the throttle components that positions the shifter too far away for the levers to be where they need to be, and secondly the bulky throttle cable exit just simply gets in the way. A combined brake/shifter...

    Modified gear shifter

I have a Shimano Tourney shifter at present that I find awkward to use when I'm using the throttle on my Alien Aurora so i thought I'd change it for the excellent value Altus shifter that I'm used to on my non assisted bike. I now see why the bike is fitted with non rapidfire shifters, as the...

    taming The Beast

After a couple of days of commuting I can definately say it was a worthwhile upgrade. Using medium power I'm generally only using gears 2 to 5 with the whole drivetrain feeling smoother and easier to use. In high power 7th is now much better once you're up to speed. Removing the front...

Very good so far. I've not done the commute yet but the short test rides today seemed a worthwhile improvement.

    taming The Beast

Well it didn't take long :D I've changed the cranks and fitted a 54T outer which gives a good usable range in both medium & high power settings. I've used a 38T as the inner that is only there as a get it home best you can non powered setting. I've actually removed the front dérailleur and I'll...

    taming The Beast

What have you got set up on yours Dave? I did wonder before whether 3 chainrings up front were that necessary on an eBike. I tend to just leave mine on the central ring unless I'm in full flight, which I then switch to the outer and top at the rear. I've not used the smaller front at all.

    taming The Beast

Give it time, I haven't changed anything for a few days :D I may look at the cranks but I don't go far enough to worry about a second battery, although that may change so never say never. :)
