I am looking into replacing the controller in my ebike so I can move from a low capacity Nicd battery to a higher capacity (and lower weight) Li setup. I have heard that Crystalyte controllers are popular, but I wanted to get a few other opinions.

Thanks

I have been using a Crystalyte 36-72volt 35amp controller for a couple of years now very reliable and one of the few controllers I have that has been truly plug and play used along side a cycle annalist has been faultless, I deferentially recommend this over engineered controller, not cheap but I have a draw full of cheap Chinese controllers that have failed over the last 5 years.

Hi

mlcook19

we need to no what motor you are using it sounds old if it is ruining Ni cads

Changing to Li-on battery's wont need a different controller

Also not all motors are wound to run at 60 or 72 volts they can go up in smoke

The other issue I am having is that I was given a controller to temporarily use, but I am having issues getting the wiring figured out.

I am really at a loss. I would really like to get this bike working, but I am lacking in knowledge at the moment.

Ah, thank you very much for the info! I had read that some people had luck running the motor at a higher voltage for improved speed, is there anyone who has experience running Heinzmann brushed motors at higher voltages?

I have yoused heinzmann motores at higher than stated volteges have run 24v heinzmann at 36v and 36 at 48volt without any problems Brushed controllers should be interchangeable without to many problems as long as the voltage rating is the same as the battery voltage
fwd 350W geared hub motor running 48 volt

and the first post here a 24v heinzmann running at 36 volt.

I used ecrazymann controllers at the time but now use this seller he has a few controllers that will work customizechn items - Get great deals on 24V 250W Brushed Controller For E-Scooter items on eBay.co.uk Shops! the bottom two on this page should work fine
I would not push geared motors to far say 24v to 36 or 36v to 48v max.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the information! I ordered a replacement controller and I am about to pickup a Li pack from BMSbattery.

I can't wait to see the performance (there are little to no bike paths where I live in the US so speed will be nice).
