Dave if you have ordered a Q128C motor before, did you use a 700c wheels and is so, what spokes do you recommend?
Which is the dolphin battery you recommend at BMS? Thought it would be best to order the 2 together to save on postage.
I see they do 48v batteries with inbuilt controllers. Would be a neater job without a separate controller. Any thoughts?

ERD is the Effective rim diameter measured across the rim from the end of one nipple to the opposite one.
All rims have a different measurement typically a 700c rim will be approx. 600mm +/- 5mm.
So until you receive your rim you can't order spokes, some rims provide the ERD which you can double check.
Two options to measure ERD.
1. Measure internal rim in a couple of places then add 4mm (2 x 2mm) for the rim/nipple seat thickness.
2. Measure the length of two cut down spokes with nipples, insert them opposite each other in to the rim and measure the gap between the spoke ends then add all three measurement together to get the ERD.

Using an online spoke length calculator put in the required details to get spoke length round up or down to the nearest mm. For a cross pattern go 1x or 2x max. 1x usually gives perfect nipple angle, 2x is acceptable though spoke entry at nipple can be a degree or two out.
Example of one to use.

Any double wall 36h rim should be suitable for disc & Q128c, though you need to check hole drilling compatibility if you use tubes Presta or Schrader.
Again any spoke make will work look for 14g 2mm double butted spokes. Sapim or DT Swiss are often the better ones but other makes will be fine.

You should order 14g spokes. As said, the legth depends on your rim's ERD.

I had the dolphin battery with Panasonic cells, now it's relatively expensive compared with those offered by Eclpse Bikes that have better cells.

The ones with co trollers in are easy to install, but harder to test if anything goes wrong. Also, the wires are too long , so you have to find a way to lose the surplus wire.

Good find. Rim ordered. Just waiting for it to arrive so I can get ERD and try to work out what spokes
I need.

I was looking at ordering the battery with the motor to save on total postage. Is the attached battery with Panasonic cells as it isn’t clear! Is that the right motor at 48v 201rpm?

No mention of cells used all it says is they are 2500mh cells looking at the price are probably no name China cells.
The 14.5a version uses Panasonic cells probably PF 2900mah.
Which controller are you going to use ?
The integrated/battery controller is only compatible with the 09/dolphin case.

Sourcing a battery from the UK/EU will work out as cheap if not cheaper as there will be no excessive postage involved or any duty to pay.
This one from Elifebike/PSWpower German warehouse uses 10a rated LG mg1 2900mah cells, 65 18650's for 13s 5p configuration.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EU-NO-taxes-48V-14-5Ah-lithium-ion-Hairon-LG-cells-inside-ebike-battery-pack/253314155529?hash=item3afab34409:g:8MoAAOSw1NFaM73H
That sounds like the thing to do, as if anything goes wrong with the most expensive component, nearer is better.
I do not know what controller to use as yet. I believe a 17A or 20A is best?
Not interested in a throttle, just pedal assist, so I believe brake cut off therefore not required.

You don't need brake cut-offs with KT controllers. It's nothing to do with throttles. It's because they have a fast response time.

In pas 5, pas4 pas 3
15a = 720w 440w 360w
17a = 816w 540w 405w
20a = 960w 650w 470w
All figures will be approximate, others may be able to give more accurate figures for pas3 & 4.
Depends on what you want from the battery and bike.
15a will give better range with good power whilst at the other end it will be at the expense of range but with mega power.

Thanks. I am more interested in range rather than power. As said initially, I want at least the power of my Carrera E but a little more top speed and range is the aim. I get 30-40 miles out of the Carrera and max 15mph. I should imagine that the Q128c 48V 201rpm motor and the PSW power 48V battery above and 17A controller would achieve this ?

48v Q128C will give you the speed you require up to about 25mph, 17a will be a good choice as you still will get good power without having to use pas 4 or 5 often to conserve range.
Setting the lcd speed cut off to about 18/20mph will also help with range, though if you want to tonk a long faster range will diminish.

Want 30% more range from your battery or 30% more speed from a bog standard 250 W pedelec mid motor?

As I am only interested in pedal assist, will the kit still work ok if there is no brake cut-offs and throttle connected? Didn't know if it likes everything plugged in.
Do I need the PAS sensor with 10 poles or dual hall !!
Below is my kit summary from PSW power. Does it look ok before I order?
Do I need the speed sensor or is it built in to the motor? - Q128C 48V 201rpm?

36V/48V 350W 6Mosfets 17A Brushless DC Sine Wave Controller
- LCD/LED: KT-LCD3
- Lamp and switch : without
- Throttle: without
- Brake : without
- Speed sensor: with Speed senso
r
- PAS: with Dual Hall Sensor

Speed sensor not required aa Q has internal sensing.
Which pas option you use depends on the BB fitted to the frame, the dual hall only for sq taper and octalink. If you have hollowtech or GXP then you have to modify the ten poles one.
Throttles are handy and I like to have one, though easy to fit later if needed with any generic model.

Thanks for that I’ll have a look tomw what B.B. my specialised has.
Just checked, it has a square taper one, so dual hall needed.
Will remove speed sensor from my shopping list too.

Above rim arrived today but it is only single wall and no mention of ERD on it. Will it be suitable or do I need a double wall?
I could use my original rim as it is double walled, but only 32 holes !
