Controller Issue?..

The beginning of the story is here.

I eventually got around to taking my non-working bike to a Gazelle workshop for a check up. After updating the firmware we found that the motor doesn't seem to give any power, and based on the error messages the mechanics deduced it is a problem with controller which they can't solve...

So the questions are:
1. Should I ask them to check/to do something more specific (such as controller's details)?
2. I am a bit disturbed that the mechanics wouldn't touch the controller. However, based on the existence of conversion kits, I believe it is still possible to fix the issue. Do I need to look for a specialized workshop or can it be done at home?..

P.S. I am not certain whether or not this thread should be moved to the technical part of the forum.
