Hi All

Following on from my thread about doing a 45 mile commute daily I've finally decided I need a battery bike, I did a test run of 21 miles today and I'm buggered! Someone recommended the below bike but before I commit is there anything better out there for the money, 2k is my budget.

What is a 29r?
Can I dongle it to make it go faster?
Will it do a 45 miles a day?

29r is the size of the wheels, but that bike in the link has 27.5 wheels not 29r

yes you can use a dongle to remove the speed limit but you might want a bigger front sprocket.

range will depend how fit you are and how fast you go.

i get about 25 miles from a 500w batt if i leave it in turbo mode.

I have the same bike but in the carbon C-62 version.If you want to go fast you will need a dongle made by badass in the x3 version. Then you will need to change the gearing and tyres.I have a 19 tooth sprocket on the motor and a 12-25 close ratio cassette on the rear wheel.The 29r wheels are a must as they are better on the road and equivalent to 700c so the schwalbe kojak 700 x 35 tyres in folding version are the fastest.
Top speed on the flat with this setup is 37mph that is why i have the x3 dongle because otherwise it will hit the x2 limit too easily.This however is not legal so you have to be aware of that.

mine will do 36mph b4 it cuts out but i cant keep it at that speed for very long.

so 2k might get full suspension (if that was important for you)

the HPA hybrid 2015/16 is about 200 cheaper, main difference I think is the 2017 have the purion displays

It well spec MTB, but if commuting is all you intend for it a lower spec cheaper bike might be better. The 11spd is excellent for off road but is expensive to replace, while 9spd should last longer and be cheaper.

I don't think having two threads on the same subject is a good idea. I gave a suggestion in your last thread. You certainly should not be looking at MTB's for your journey.

Thats out of my budget and not the type of bike I like to ride. I started a separate thread as I was being more specific with an actual bike which I wanted opinions on.

The Giant was in reply to you saying you couldn't find it. The was a hybrid Cube on offer for about £1260, but they've sold out now by the look of it.
I'd buy two cheap Bosch hybrids, then hopefully you'll always have a bike working to go to work on. Budget for road tyres and mudguards too, oh and a clip on speed-up device to swap between bikes, no point buying two unless you can get them very cheaply.

one bike will let you down given the mileage you'll be doing.

one bike will let you down given the mileage you'll be doing.

If that happens then i'll get it repaired. When I buy a car I don't buy two just in case one fails.

Right okay, so Phill is selling the Giant. If its the same bike that Artstu said then I dont like the positioning of the bike. I've tried a road bike before and I didn't get on with it.

I can see your logic, sadly that logic does not transfer to bicycles, but you'll find out soon enough once you start your commuting by bike. I wish you luck, you'll need it.

I won't be relying on the bike, I can get lifts or the train. I think we have gone slightly off topic. I have commuted on a mountain bike for many years in the past so I've got an idea of what can go wrong. Its just electric/battery bikes I don't know. I think we got off on the wrong foot but thanks for your input

Ah I was under the impression you would be 100% reliant on the bike, not sure why, but hey ho.
As an example when say the alternator fails on your car(rare I know) the garage can usually get a parts supplier to supply one in around 30 minutes.

When your Bosch pedelec motor fails for whatever reason the bike shop will require about 4-weeks or so to get a replacement.
