Hi I'm new to the world of ebikes..seems a lot is going on concerning technology..
So where do I start...I have been building bikes for about 20 years. Now I would like to build my own Ebike..I have decided to use an old Carrera Kraken xc MTB frame and running gear..its old but works and rides nice..I need to know if. Should go with the build in the crank motor system or front or rear hub..I cycle most weekends but do tend to keep to the flat stuff as much as possible due to my age and a dodgy knee. And still manage 30 to 40 mile runs...
Any help would be much appreciated

I would only use a crank motor for proper off-road riding. for tarmac, I think a hub-motor always wins. Get a normal geared hub-motor, not one of those 500w/1000w direct drive ones. If you want a bit more power, think about running at 48v. Don't buy any motor unless you know its max rpm or its kV.
