Is there a central register for stolen bikes?

I'm going to be looking at a used e-bike today, I'm a bit suspicious as it has no key and no charger, so it's ringing alarm bells.
Is there a register somewhere for stolen bike where I can check the serial number?

But it's only ever going to contain details of people who know about it and have registered their bike. As there's no requirement to register a bike as there is with a car it's not going to be like DVLA.

I feared as much, the bike was very tatty and someone had attacked it with a screwdriver around the battery lock so I didn't touch it.

Sounds like you got all the indication you needed that the bike, at the very least, hadn't been well treated! Better luck next time.

Just bought a cheapie old Dawes folder bike off ebay for £36.
Hopefully I'll be able to coax her indoors back onto 2 wheels again.
Having 16" wheels and the old-style 3-speed Sturmey Archer gears may give her more confidence to try again. If I get her back on 2 wheels, I'll get her something decent. I made a mistake in buying her a new car for Christmas last year, now she just wants to drive it to our local beauty spot and walk for miles along the sea front. She'll walk from Bournemouth Pier to Hengistbury Head then to Sandbanks and back to Coy Pond where she parks the car-I'd have trouble doing that on my e-bike, it's about 14 miles and she's nearly 70.
