Purchase advice needed - budget of £1000

Hi all,

My name is Damian and I am new to e - bikes. I wanted to buy one for ages and finally managed to save about 1k to get one next month. I've been doing lots of research also how I found this forum, but I can't make my mind up what to get for this price. There is the Ancheer ebike from amazon for £555.99. I've also looked at the woosh Bikes and would love to get the RIO bike, but it's above my budget as I would need those extra 100 quid for lock probably.Would appreciate in depth advice which one should I get as first purchase and perhaps there is some others that I don't know about. If it helps I live in Sheffield which can be hilly in some areas.

Great to hear you are going to join the community.
I am totally unbiased with regard to brands and have had a KTM, a Cube and have a Brompton electric folder on order...... my own thoughts are buy a bike which has a good follow up service.... you mention Woosh which has many mentions on this site and have to say the support given to prospective purchasers and people who have bought and want advice is first class.
It really might be worth trying to stretch the budget and buy a brand who has staff who care, rather than saving a few pounds and buying a bike which if it has a problem, as any machine with moving parts can!, there is someone who can help you.
As it’s getting towards the end of the 2018 model year you might be able to negotiate a good deal!

Welcome to Pedelecs Forums.

You are going about things the right way by doing plenty of advance research. There is plenty of useful advice and information on here.

One of the most important things on an electric bike is the battery, the quality of the internal cells and its amp-hour (ah) rating.

Cheap and cheerful bikes like the Ancheer from Amazon are fitted with poor quality equipment and have 8ah batteries which have a limited range. 13ah is the minimum rating you should look for in my opinion, especially with hilly terrain.
You may as well set fire to the notes with a new electric bike priced at £500, IMO.

You will need to spend a bit over £1000 to get a half-decent new electric bike from a recognised brand such as FreeGo, Wisper, Woosh, Oxygen etc.

The Woosh Rio you mentioned at £1169 with an 13ah battery would seem to fit the bill and is only slightly over your budget.

There is also the cheaper Woosh Karoo for those who are lightweight and like to pedal more:

I know you are desperate to get a new electric bike asap but it could well be false economy to get a cheap bike and then regret it a short time later.

Try and save a few more quid and get the bike you have really set your heart on would be my advice.

Thanks a lot for your in depth reply, I appreciate it! I think I will go ahead and stretch my budget little bit more and go for a decent bike rather than spend on something that will brake in few months. Most likely I will be going with the Rio bike from Woosh. Just wanted to ask you if you have personal experience with the Carrera Crossfire one from Halfords?

I have no personal experience of the electric Crossfire-E, but the model is mentioned on several posts on these forums. I recommend that you search for other members comments on the Crossfire.
