For city commuting with lots of stop starts Nexus hub is ideal as you can change when stop. With derailluer you need to shift down while slowing down, not always possible with unexpected quick stops.
It doesn't take much practice to change down as you brake. Riding an MTB, if there is no curb to put my foot on, I have to also remember to drop my seat post too. You only fall off once before it becomes habit!!

Shifting down only works with planned stops not with unexpected emergency stops, there are always a few of them with inner city commutes.

How does the Motus bike compare with some of the chinese imports, such as Zipper bikes?
