Hi, I have built my pedelec with a Cyclotricity 1000w rear hub motor with an 8 speed freewheel, I have fitted a Sram rear derailleur but have found that when it is properly set, it is really close to the side of the hub and when I accidentally downshifted when already in first gear, the derailleur caught on the studs on the outer edge of the hub.
This has buckled the cage on the derailleur. Can anyone recommend a derailleur that is more suitable to allow a little more clearance from the studs to prevent this from happening again. Any help gratefully received.
Cheers.
Keith.

If you can downshift when already in bottom gear it isn't properly set. The cage on any derailer will go to the same position i.e. directly under the largest sprocket.

Thanks for that, I Will possibly need to get professional advice to help with setting up the derailleur but will hit YouTube first as I would like to do it myself, first self build project and that's my only issue. Cheers.
