Yes run it at 52 or 60v.
35km/h or about 23mph is probably the terminal speed of the hub motor winding which is probably about 260 or 270rpm. For more speed you will need to find a big hill to go down or increase the voltage.

No chip will help me? So to up the voltage I need to buy a new battery?

Afraid so, but also consider that the controller may also need replacing if it can't take the higher voltage. These cheap bikes are cheap for a reason.

You need to open the controller at the opposite end to the wiring and see the voltage of the in rush capacitor usually located next to the shunt.

Many thanks will it be written on off I guess? I've found a 52v battery that would fit if the controller allowed. What sort of extra speed do you guys think it may get to with the 52v?

8% - the idea behind a 52v battery is to make a 48v controller be on the safe side of the 62v maximum of the capacitor while giving a little more grunt.

Speed goes in direct proportion to voltage. Actual voltage goes in steps:

36v is 10 x 3.7v so actually 37v
48v is 13 x 3.7v so actually 48.1v
52v is 14 x 3.7v so actually 51.8v

Therefore, going from 48v to 52 v, you get 51.8/48.1 times as much speed = 7.7% increase.

The next jump is 16 x 37v, which is 59.2v or 60v nominal.

Note that nothing over 48v is legal in the UK.
