Chain type

I'm looking for a multi tool to carry with me on the bike but I notice that Shimano chains don't work with all chain tools. I'm assuming the chain is Shimano but can you please clarify what type of chain it is and if it should be OK with most of the emergency chain splitters?
I also saw somewhere that a new link has to be used with some chains, is it the case with this one?

The chain is a KMC Z-7H RB. I have just offered up my Crank Brothers M17 multitool and I can't see any reason why it should not press the rivet out, likewise a cheapo Tesco workshop splitter.

On 6 speed and above I have always used the snap on type links to rejoin, rather than the spring clip types.

The KMC Z50 7 speed chain appears to be identicle, both being rust resistant.

KMC chains and joining links are readily available on most mail order websites.
