Swap 5-speed IGH for 7 or 8 speed?

And believe me, having now lived with belt drive for two years, he'd give up his bike if he had to do that.

Swap 5-speed IGH for 7 or 8 speed?

My current Gazelle has a Nexus 5 and a rear disc brake :)

Swap 5-speed IGH for 7 or 8 speed?

Blimey! Glad I asked. OK then... would there be any reason to go for a Nexus rather than an Alfine when my primary consideration would be best reliability on an e-bike with a 75Nm motor and longest life?

Swap 5-speed IGH for 7 or 8 speed?

I'm wondering about getting the 5-speed Nexus rear hub of my Gazelle e-bike (belt drive, disc brake) swapped for a 7 or 8-speed one. And I have questions ... 1. Assuming I could find somebody to do it (rear wheel there and back by courier), could anybody take a guess at a likely sort of cost...

    Brainfart or cockup?

Here's a picture of my Nexus 5 hub after being put back together as per advice received here, YT videos and the snaps I took whilst taking it all apart. T'other end of the axle is clamped in the vice. Wheel turns freely clockwise but not anticlock. Have I cocked up or do I need another coffee?

Help! Another Nexus 5 hub lubrication question - hopefully the last!

Sorry chaps, but the guts of my hub have now been soaking in ATF for most of the day (with occasional agitation) and the plan is to let it drip off overnight so I can reassemble tomorrow. In anticipation of this I've been checking online the oiling procedure and I'm a bit puzzled by one aspect...

Help! Nexus 5 hub gear dismantling - SUCCESS!!!!!

Right. Success. The problem was the word "tap", plus the fact that I served my time as a toolmaker, therefore I still have an aversion to using brute force when logic says it shouldn't be needed . However, in the end I reached the "sod it" point and resorted to a fair old whack with the...

Help! Nexus 5 hub gear dismantling - SUCCESS!!!!!

It's a thought, but it's not the axle that needs to come out - it's pretty much the complete contents of the hub. There are videos of the process on YT, but as is often the case, none of them show the brake side of a Nexus IGH that has the disc retained by the "nut" that's removed by a cassette...

Help! Nexus 5 hub gear dismantling - SUCCESS!!!!!

Sorry if i'm being really dumb here, but in your first reply on this thread, you said I take everything off the other end (i.e. the brake side) then push the guts through, which I assumed meant I push from the drive side. I can't take everything off the brake side, because I can't see where I...

Help! Nexus 5 hub gear dismantling - SUCCESS!!!!!

Aaaaargh ,,, So I got the disc off and removed the flanged nut, leaving things as in the photo. Can't find anything helpful online, so how on earth do I proceed now?
