An ode to skidding
Ice and grit and mud and puke,
You better brake and take a look.
Sand and wood and cobblestones,
Are lurking there to break your bones.
Manholes, leaves and slimy worms,
Give high-speed skids on real hards terms.
I'm compiling the ultimate skid list...
Ice
Mud
Puke
Wood
Acorns
Tree roots
Pine cones
The puke story from Wicky was a first for me. If there are any other unexpected dangers lurking out there please add them with your story.
Since autumn is upon us and the leaves are falling on wet roads and tracks, please take care.
Yesterday evening I had my first cycling accident on well-used cycle track that makes a sharp turn. As I entered the bend on the track I hit a film of mushed-up leaves. Despite my low speed (15 km/h)...

As an overweight, middle-aged man I was amazed to read this in today's Guardian:
"PublicHealthEngland (PHE) said 41% of the 15.3 million English adults aged 40 to 60 walk less than 10 minutes continuously each month at a brisk pace of at least 3mph. Health leaders believe that 10 minutes’...
Yep, the whole of county Uppland is flat which also means it can very be windy. There's only one steep hill in Uppsala up to the castle/university library that I have the pleasure of cycling up and down on my way to work.
I'm usure of the type of light I have but I know is that it will not be...
It all depends on the type of winter. I'm no stoic, so cycling 50 mins at anything below -10C is out as is forcing at track though deep snow. That said Uppsala winters have temperature that hover around -5 to +2 and studded winter tyres are standard kit for both cars and bikes.
The biggest...
