So to conclude the thread, thanks for all of your comments and help. I'm now a couple of hundred miles into my Alltrack 10 which rides really nicely and with luck will keep me happy for many years. Regards Paul.

I’m at the time of life where I’m fortunate to be able to buy a new bike, I’m at the time of life where I might not live long enough to wear it out ( not that bad really but it’s certain that there is more active years behind than in front) :) I will still do the majority of service work myself

That does make perfect sense, my old Marin is about 25 years old and whilst the forks and seat stem are original I reckon it’s not exactly as built :-)

My apologies I should have been more specific in my question. I'm really interested to know if the bikes have a reputation for being poor quality or maybe hard to get parts etc.. rather than selecting the type of bike that I need. A mid drive hard tail mtb or maybe a hard tail trail is my...

Thank you for the reply, my apologies I should have been more specific in my question. I've lived with a mid drive for about five years already so I know it suits my needs, my conversion came from Woosh https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/i-may-never-bother-to-pedal-again.36483/

My quest to replace my old e-bike is ongoing.. this weekend I called into the local mountain bike hire place here in North Wales to have a chat about his bikes.. he has a fleet out on hire all the time so I guess his opinion is worth listening to. Bit of background, he uses Haibike and seemed to...

Converting this bike with a mid-drive motor for climbing hills - I have questions!

In my experience the old TSDZ2 mid drive will drag me and my heavy bike up much steeper hills than you might expect .. you may have to go a bit slowly and wind your way along but the motor is plenty powerful enough. The new TSDZ8 appears to be even better so ... The torque sensing assist is...

Hi, I've no idea as the odometer mysteriously reset to zero after a few years, it's currently back to a few thousand. I don't do many miles really but I'd guess 6K or so is a fair estimate. During 2020/1 here in Wales we had lots of restriction on use and last year I had set some targets for...

Yes for sure, I've lived with it for five years and it's been OK. I suppose I'm at the point where it needs to be better. I broke a couple of fingers last year and where in my youth it would have taken a few weeks to fully recover these took a year and still hurt like... Old age :-) I think I...

That looks in really nice condition - it will make a nice machine. Are you going to hub drive or mid drive it?

Thank you, Yes I agree all practical suggestions, I did sort of add up the cost of that lot and it left me thinking that : Yes.. I think if I'm going to build rather than buy this is by far the best option.. I get to keep my motor that I know does what I need, I effectively get a 'new' bike...

25 Kg is the absolute limit of what I can cycle with on my back and then I really only use the bike to shorten a walk in on for example forestry tracks - where I can ditch the bike in the trees and walk the rest of the hill . Yes the weight is a killer. I have a much lighter camera setup for...

I'll take a look at those, living here on Anglesey Island its a bit of a hassle getting to see stuff in the flesh but there we go. I'm nipping across the Chester on Friday to look at a friends bike with a Mid drive and Rohloff Hub which he absolutely raves about. At least I can ascertain the...

I'm of an age where prostate comfort and potential damage is a consideration :-) having said that my 'saddle with a hole' does a pretty good job. Its not really a comfort issue but stability is certainly a concern. I could replace the front wheel and upgrade to disk as the fork has the lugs...

So five years on and the TZD kit is still running well. Battery range has hardly changed. The rather useless thumb throttle went intermittent after a few months but as I never used it I just removed it and everything was back to normal. It's been a great kit and still has life in it. The power...
