I wasn't able to take the cover off as I was away from home, but on my return I refitted the battery and turned the key on and off a few times.....hey presto it worked, so it is probably a key problem which is intermittent at the moment. Thanks again for your help, I am hoping with a lot more...

Thank you so much I will try that tomorrow, at the moment I am near Herne Bay and it seems that nobody does repairs, there is Kudos cycles I believe, so I may have to contact them if it won't fix .
