    maybe I didn't put it right. There are 50 cells altogether, in 10 strings. 2 dud strings = 10 cells.

    41.6v The charge socket did show zero. I followed the wires from the socket (two red & two black) back to a terminal on the BMS (see below). There were no fuses between the socket and the BMS. I tested the voltages between all combinations of the pins the red and black wires went to and...

    The charger went red for a while, but has now returned to green. I'll leave it overnight and then do as you suggest

    No, it surprised me too. Not 100% sure where you wanted me to short the switch so exposed the terminals on the switch and stuck a small bolt between them. Still no reading on the output. P.S. USB socket provides power but battery indicator light on side of case shows 1 of 4 LEDs.
