    Back into the fold

Alien Resurrection....It lives once more! Took the easy route mainly due to finding a keenly priced Samsung celled 13Ah battery and rack on Amazon of all places. Kept the old controller as I heavily upgraded it years ago and...well...it just works. Moved the controller into a saddle bag and...

    Back into the fold

Thanks d8veh, Is it me or is buying ebike batteries difficult? Does anybody have experience of EclipseBikes batteries? They look good and well priced but every one is 'out-of-stock'

    Back into the fold

Hi All, it has been a very long time since I was last here but I see some familiar names about from days gone by! I've been out of the loop far too long and as I move toward retirement(at last!) at the end of this month I want to take up eBiking again....especially as my knees are not as good...

caught for speeding with radar gun

Guys it is best to 'view' the HWC is as a book explaining the rules of the road as developed by road traffic law, see page 37 of the official DSA guide to 'Driving, the essential skills' which all new drivers need to read. Many of the rules in the HWC are legal requirements (distinguished from...

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

Voltage isn't 'irrelevant'! Jeremy on the +100% setting: 100% controller program setting: Motor speed is controlled by varying the motor voltage using something called pulse width modulation (PWM). PWM is just switching the battery voltage on and off very quickly (around 15,000 times...

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

No sorry Dave that is not right, look up PWM and how it works....this may help: 4QD-TEC: PWM speed control

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

Thanks Wurly, I was trying to find a 'scope pic showing the PWM signal and that reminded me you posted it on (I think) my Aliem GS thread from a couple of years ago!

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

No it sees a lower voltage and the motor runs (in this example) at half the speed. --------------------------------- Posted using Tapatalk :)

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

The throttle controls the duty cycle of the PWM signal IE: the on off ratio. In each on 'pulse' if you where to look using an oscilloscope you would see many high frequency voltage pulses making up each individual pulse. As each mosfet pair is under the control of the CPU they switch the...

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

Controllers based on the Xeichang CPU are most certainly voltage controlled, JH has written loads about it on ES. The throttle is used to adjust the PWM period, yes the CPU will interpret the voltage and adjust the PWM period accordingly...the apparent voltage the motor sees, RPM is dependent...

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

The controller / throttle/ motor relationship is voltage controlled not current. The throttle controls the PWM period of the controller which changes the voltage the motor sees and thus its RPM, the current drawn during the PWM period is dependent on motor load and will rise under load up to...

8 fun kit died last night on way home :(

Be very careful when measuring the battery that the meter probes don't touch! Unfortunately just measuring the voltage may not show you if there is an intermittent connection inside...you could still get a good reading if a connection has partial contact.
