Ping battery on a Powabyke X6?

Thanks for that link it was very useful. On balance, and after some research on this site, I think I'll go for a LiFePO4 battery. The X-6 is my commuting mule so the extra weight isn't that big an issue, but I'll load up my pannier with 7.5kg of assorted tins and bags to see how it feels.

Ping battery on a Powabyke X6?

I'm thinking of getting a 36V 20Ah battery from Ping for my Powabyke X6. 36V 20AH V2.5 LiFePO4 Battery Pack Has anyone else here tried using a bigger battery with an X-byke? Any tips or things to be aware of? My plan is to house it in the Bikebin that I've already got fitted to the bike...

Yes, my Focus Wasgo TR 3.0 FOCUS Bikes: Bikes 2012 I got it earlier this year when I decided to do the London to Brighton bike ride.

What bike test-drive policies do you have?

I was able to try out the last two e-bikes I bought from my LBS (The Bike Warehouse in Faversham) by taking them out for a spin on the roads. It meant I was able to test them on the killer hill on my commute (a round trip of about 6 miles) so when I bought them I was sure they would do the job...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

But there are very few cases in which this would be possible unless you tunnelled to make an underground cycle network, built flyovers for an over head network or banned motor vehicles from roads in built up areas. There’s a very good reason why major cities have underground rail systems...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

That depends on the cycle path and the road in question. Cycle lanes painted on the outer edge of roads are often dangerous to use because the put you out of sight and out of mind of drivers, so you'd be safer out in the main flow of traffic where you're much harder to ignore. And there's a...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

I disagree completely with the idea that trying to use infrastructure to separate cyclists from other vehicles is the way to make cycling safer. In fact I'd argue the opposite. The thing that makes roads dangerous for competent cyclists is other road users, in particular people not showing...

Tonaro and Momentum reviews in new A to B issue 92

Not having completely independent control of the amount of assistance I get when climbing wouldn't suit my riding style. I take having fine moment-by-moment control of the motor for granted, and having just three modes which influence but don't in themselves determine the level of assistance...

    E-Bikes, the cost case

To be fair, the first line of the origonal post is "If you need to retain a car there isn't one !" which is pretty clear. Not that that stopped me from missunderstanding the post as well.

Tonaro and Momentum reviews in new A to B issue 92

I like the simple throttle control on my Powabyke X6. Although it does have a moped feel if you're letting the motor do most of the work you can also use it as a subtle (or not so subtle) top-up to your own efforts. If I'm pedaling hard then normally it's because I'm pushing myself so I don't...

    London to Brighton Charity ride

I did the British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton bike ride earlier this year (on an unassisted bike), along with over 27000 other cyclists. I even met someone on an electric bike along the way. British Heart Foundation - London to Brighton Bike Rides The event's so big that you...

Shock warning! Should we ask for Registration?

If it a high street bike dealer that assembles the bike before selling it then registering it wouldn't be such a big deal, but what about online dealers like wiggle, and amazon.co.uk, and retailers that sell boxed bikes like Argos and Tesco. Asking them to open, register, and repack every bike...

Shock warning! Should we ask for Registration?

There are some crucial differences between bikes and motor vehicles: No one under 16 can drive a motor vehicle on a public highway, all motor vehicle on the road have someone they can be legally registered to which makes it possible to make it compulsory for all motor vehicles to be...

Shock warning! Should we ask for Registration?

But it wouldn't be a universal system unless the registration of all bicycles including children's bikes was compulsory. If there was an exception for children of 14 and under (as has been suggested) then there would still be unregistered bikes on the road so there would be legal market for...
