flecc - Am I right in thinking that the Panasonic is also one of those systems that doesn't have a throttle - pedal assist only?

    The whoosh Predictor

Loving the Whoosh predictor but I now realise a 15 A/h battery is going to be a bare minimum rather than a nice-to-have. Getting to work should be doable on pretty much any bike, but getting to college will take a whopping 490 W/h for the round trip. According to Whoosh that's outside the range...

trex - I hear what you're saying about parts availability. It's quite the quandary really. I shall do some more research and look at a few more bikes before making a decision. newboater - I'll keep an eye out for you around town. Can't be that many people with ebikes in Leek.

    New bike for serious commuting

I'm in Leek, in North Staffs, just to the south west of the Peak District, so very hilly. I'd rather spend £2k if it means I get a very low maintenance bike with long range over hilly terrain, rather than £1-£1.5k and have a machine that's not quite up to the job. As I said, it's got to cope...

    New bike for serious commuting

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Ideally, I want a bike that's as easy to maintain as possible, and I don't mind paying a bit more if necessary. I take on board what's been said about reliability - as I said in my first post, I'm new to ebikes and I'm not totally sure what to expect...

    New bike for serious commuting

I see. I guess the question is how much I have to spend to get a bike that's ready-prepared for the rain? Also, I'm planning on using the bike for grocery shopping - perhaps 25kg of goods in pannier bags. The bike I buy has to be able to handle this, plus 75kg of me. Hub gears and hydraulic...

    New bike for serious commuting

This is definitely a big plus point in their favour. But not for the first time, I'm reading about water/rain compatibility being an issue. Surely ebikes sold in the UK are designed to be used in typical UK weather?

    New bike for serious commuting

I'm looking to ditch my car and commute by ebike. I used to commute by push-bike when I used to live closer to work so I'm no stranger to commuting on two wheels, but these days I just live too far (over very hilly terrain) for a push-bike to be a practical solution (no showers or changing...
