How to make a lightweight battery

They're sold out. Are these any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-bike-Bateria-11600mAh-11-6Ah-36V-40x-Panasonic-NCR18650PF-10S4P/282633317787?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Bafang mid drive 250W or higher?

...or bespoke boom for me and my recumbent trike. :)

    Recumbant trike query

These are new to me and look very interesting. What will you use for hydraulics and levers to go with them? Standard MTB components? Also, I've it found it hard to source quality spokes for 20" wheels in the past, Rims too, to be honest.

I use drum brakes which I really like (no other option with this trike anyway), so perhaps they work better with those?

    Recumbant trike query

The trike was designed for a rear parking brake, but I took it off as I was never happy with it. Instead, many folks use elastic bands or velcro to hold the break levers in the 'breaks on' position. I fitted levers with lock buttons, which works perfectly for me. I don't think I would ever...

So it's probably best to buy them (they don't cost much) and fit them later if the need/desire arises?

Am I correct in thinking that for a PAS only system, brake sensors aren't rneeded?

No, I just wanted to check all the bits I have will work together before installing them on the bike.

Is there a possible/recommended way to test the drive system before installing it on a bike?

OK, great. I asked Woosh about how high a voltage I could put on the GSM motor and they said no more than 36V, but agreed many/most(?) hub motors can handle higher without problems. I suppose that means that if you use a higher supply, you're going to put yourself outside their terms &...

Where are you getting a GSM motor that can handle 48V?

Pretty poor design if the Bosch system isn't software configurable, at least to some extent. The wheel would have been the correct size, but after anotherwiki's comment on the Bosch torque sensor, they've been ruled out. GSM mid drive is now top of my list, although that may change again.

What controllers are you considering? A UK dealer that stocks both GSM and Bafang believe the Bafang kit is worth the extra £150 (I'm getting there...slowly).

Thanks for your reply, but don't beat yourself up about using Rutland. Very few LBS's can even offer electric bikes and the majority of those that offer servicing and repairs make you pay a pretty high price, often as dear or dearer than the mechanic at motorcycle garages. Cyles have got more...

Ah, I must have slipped up and looked at dealer addresses. That's useful info, thanks. I'm still learning.

Sounds like a great project and thanks for the info. However, I'm puzzled that you got a quote from a Canadian company when you're in the EU. Were they the only people you could find?

I'll get the motor plus all that's needed to make it work (obviously not from Bosch). Is there some licencing issue of which I'm not aware, so that the complete drive system can only be used on the bike it was installed on?

Thanks for the reply, but I may already have sourced a motor, etc . Also, it says that it's no longer available and woud have been pretty costly by the time it landed in the UK,

Not a kit question per se, but does anyone here have knowledge or experience of making (or having built) a custom boom to take a Bosch (or other non BB fitting) mid drive? I think it's feasible, but the weight of the drive (I don't know what it is) may be a problem.

Why do you rate the Scott so highly? I'm straight away put off by the forks. Not tried any of the above, but the Orbea Gain (not sure if that's what you tried) looks and sounds terrific on paper.
