Public charging points for electric bikes?

When I first spoke to Hillers they were a bit bemused until I explained that it only needed a standard socket and consumed about the same power a a laptop computer. Putting it that way gives a quick visualisation of what the chargers do, i.e. you are not plugging in something that is burning...

The Cyclists (Protective Headgear) Bill In NI

That's good to know Flecc, but governments change and there is no harm in making the depth of feeling known, if only for NI's sake.

The Cyclists (Protective Headgear) Bill In NI

This bill was approved by the Northern Ireland assembly in January. It now goes to their Environment Committee, after which it may become law and will be the first part of the UK to have compulsory wearing of helmets. I always wear a helmet but I do believe it shouldn't be compulsory. This...

Public charging points for electric bikes?

I took a ride today to Hillers: A H Hilllers - Quality local produce farmshop garden cafe display gardens in Warwickshire. A nice little places with a farm shop, gift shop, cafe and gardens. I rang ahead and asked if they were ok with me charging my battery while I had lunch at the cafe. They...

Public charging points for electric bikes?

This sort of service in the UK would be ideal: Google Maps adds electric vehicle charging stations — Autoblog Green Would still need bikes that can use the connector though.:)

Public charging points for electric bikes?

I can see that there may not be much of a market for charging points to serve only e-bikes. Charging points for electric cars are going to become more commonplace using a standard connector which I think has yet to be agreed on in Europe, see: European 'standard' e-car power connector details...

Public charging points for electric bikes?

That's a good idea. Problem with bikes like mine (Kalkhoff Pro Connect) is that you have to take the battery off to charge it. :(

Public charging points for electric bikes?

With work progressing on a standard for electric car charging standards: Cenelec - Charging of electric vehicles Mandate officially handed over to the European Standards Organizations it occurs to me whether electric bike manufacturers will start to produce bikes that could be plugged into...

    Anyone lost a Kalkhoff

My guiding rule is that any advert that has such shocking levels of spelling and literacy should be treated with suspicion. Plus the lack of battery charger virtually shouts out that it is stolen.

    Bicycle Tutor

I bought him a cup of coffee as thanks for explaining how to adjust V brakes so clearly. I often find repair manuals unclear on some details but seeing it actually done is an effective learning style for me.:)

How much does weight affect performance

It certainly does. A couple of years ago whilst recovering from a knee operation I managed to put on 13kg. It took me 6 months of gruelling dieting to lose that. When I started cycling again it occurred to me that it was the same as, pre-diet, riding a weightless bike (my Dawes, not an e-bike).:)

50cycles announce new Kalkhoff batteries and prices

£500 is not cheap, of course. But for a battery that offers close to twice the range and twice the recharge cycles I think it compares well to the cost of the current 10Ah battery at £395. It could transform the way you use e-bikes when fretting over potential range is much reduced.:)
