If you voted IN then here's a second chance for common sense

...and maybe then another, and another, etc etc.... ? Maybe the voting process could then last for 5 years, bridging the gap between general elections....

The Best Mobile Telephone Ever Made for only £9.10

Yes, I realise that Alan. Let me sum up my usage strategy for my mobile (again)...... I only let my wife know my mobile number, so I don't get calls from anyone else, and my privacy is preserved. I always have it switched on when I'm away from home, so that she can call me if she needs to. I...

The Best Mobile Telephone Ever Made for only £9.10

? I was thinking more of 999 calls Alan. The ability to quickly contact the emergency services if presented with a life threatening situation, (mine or someone else), is well worth carrying a mobile phone for that sole purpose IMHO.

The Best Mobile Telephone Ever Made for only £9.10

I totally agree with the statement that mobile phones can be a tremendous loss of privacy and freedom. During my working life before I retired (over 15 years ago now), I experienced their gradual introduction, from pagers, to message pagers, to "bricks", then to genuine mobiles. I was involved...

The Best Mobile Telephone Ever Made for only £9.10

I've quoted that important piece of Flecc's post because it caught me out when I needed mine in an emergency. I've been on Voda pay as you go for 15 years now because I'm a tight git and my usage can't justify any sort of contract. There can therefore sometimes be very long gaps in my need to...

    Cheap Action Camera

I've had several action cameras, though I could never justify the expense of a genuine gopro. In the past few weeks I've just bought the best one I've had so far, a "Git 2" by Gitup (yes, stupid name, I know...) It was £105 from a UK ebay seller. It has the best built-in digital stablisation...

    Bl00dy Bugs!

That's a disappointment then...... Judging by the lack of any further replies, maybe they're aren't any "low-vis" cycling mouth masks for us ordinary earthlings.....

    Bl00dy Bugs!

Something like this maybe..... No, hang on though, I'd still be breathing through just my nose....

    Bl00dy Bugs!

This is an interesting thread for me, and it would be great if someone did find a mouth mask that didn't make you look like a relative of Darth Vader. Almost all of my cycling is along quiet country lanes and tracks, so the bug population at certain times of the year is a steady facial...

    Leaving the EU

I'm 65 years old so I've experienced many manifestos and broken promises from every political party. I readily admit that I dwell on political issues as little as possible because it is such a depressing subject, and I'd rather spend my life thinking about things that do not subconsciously...

Pedelecs frum makes me feel sick

I only pop in here occasionally now, for the same reasons. I've tried to put information back into the forum wherever I could, but it's a tiny proportion of all the knowledge and help I've gained from it, and especially from d8veh. When I first posted a few years back I found I knew so little...

    29er are the fastest bike

As long as all the other variables are equal, I can't accept the assertion that a 29'er wheel could be 19 seconds faster than a 27.5 or a 26 on a comparison test. The fact that the video then says that the 26 is faster than the 27.5 sounds even more implausible. The "middle" size can't be the...

    Alternative Lithium battery use

My Minn Kota is an old "turbo 50", with a thrust of 32lbs, and a weight of 9kg. My Rhino v18 electric with 18lbs thrust and weighs 3.6 kg I'm frantically searching through all my junk for the bit of paper where I wrote down the amps at various speed levels and the duration of the various...

    Alternative Lithium battery use

It's a difficult choice then. I use my outboards in dinghies too, (rigid and inflatables), and the lead acid leisure battery solution is still the simplest and maybe even most cost-effective. There's masses of spare buoyancy in dinghies, so the 18kg or so of a lead acid battery is no hardship...

    Alternative Lithium battery use

Yes, I did, and I'm very pleased with it, and grateful for the advice on the forum bringing my attention to it. The ability to charge through the balance leads is vital, I now realise, ensuring maximum charge and long life from the packs always being perfectly balanced, or put on storage charge...

    Alternative Lithium battery use

My apologies for not noticing this request for info sooner, I don't log in so often at the moment. Wingreen messaged me, so I thought I'd better reply on here in case anyone else is interested. I asked the same questions on here a year or two back, and d8veh very kindly gave me all the info to...

    Mystery creak solved :)

Been there, done that... :) The easiest way to check if the creak is coming from the saddle is to stand up on the pedals while riding and then pull on the handlebars. Once my 95kg was out of contact with the saddle, the creaking stopped for me too.

    Cycle Mirror

Absolutely right. In fact, not doing the "life-saver" on just one occasion was one of the fail points on my motorcycle test.......

    Cycle Mirror

I also use a "Reevu" helmet, with a built-in mirror. It has a clever rear periscope built in, so that you just look up under the peak for a panoramic rear view. So it's just like in a car, where you can be "aware" of things behind you, without actually staring into the mirror. A clever...

    Cycle Mirror

Thanks for that Gringo, I didn't realise there was a newer version with another joint on it. I must admit, that would make them more versatile. I tried many cycle mirrors but they always seemed a little on the flimsy side, and none of my alloy motorbike mirrors has ever broken or given...
