Can anyone compare these two bikes.

My folding ebike has a boost button on the right handlebar to provide assistance when starting off, and it's really useful particularly on hills. This is on the Mirider but l'm sure it could be fitted to other bikes as it has a standard controller.

That's the thing, it's a mountain bike, the motor should be able to cope with that. lt's not fit for purpose! Having said that my Kona has looked like that at times and has been washed with a hose (not a jet wash) including the motor at least fifty times and the much criticised Shimano E8000...

lt should be possible to produce a mid-drive motor that is a/reliable b/serviceable if it does break or wear out c/waterproof

The future may be a hub motor with a built in (say) 10 speed gearbox. Only issue would be the weight of the wheel, but you'd probably not notice too much on an ebike.

Could you build a hub motor with an integrated gearbox l wonder.

Can anyone compare these two bikes.

This is truly appalling and not good news for anyone (like me for instance) who has a Shimano motor in their expensive e-mtb l will just have to hope that mine doesn't fail. And what happens to all the £4,000+ bikes when Shimano decide to stop making these motors? You can't fit a different...

l wonder why none of the posh e-mtb manufacturers have gone with hub drive then. l guess it's because the motor doesn't drive through the gears.

    Disc brake issues

Hydraulic brakes are indeed in a different league to mechanical brakes, l've got them on my Kona. But mechanical disc brakes do work well, and are themselves better than rim brakes, that often become ineffective when wet, and (unless you get the good ones) are tricky to adjust when the pads wear.

Can anyone compare these two bikes.

Well, so far l've done 3,000 miles on my "unmitigated piece of crap" Kona Mid-Drive ebike, and l have to say it's the most fun l've ever had on a bike, unmitigated piece of crap or not. Hopefully the fun will continue for some time yet. The motor and transmission has so far been fine, although...

    Disc brake issues

l asked the shop to fit new tyres and am guessing it's them who didn't reassemble the brakes properly The brakes are Hayes and work well, once properly set up. My friend has the Onebot, l've ridden both bikes and we've been on rides together and the difference between his bike, and the...

Help! Advice on a commuter bike

Are you planning to use the bike for anything other than your commute. And if so, what kind of riding would you be doing.....road, road and trail, off road? As it will affect what is the best bike for you to get.

Help! Advice on a commuter bike

Yes of course, if you can afford it then why not. For commuting though, bikes get a hard time and often have to be left in public places, plus there's rarely any serious off road, so l wouldn't want a top of the range ebike if a cheaper one would do.

    Disc brake issues

l did try to straighten the rotors but it made no difference to the brakes not being smooth. Of course that's because it was not the cause of the fault, although l didn't know that at the time, so l bought the new discs. At least they were only £12! l can save the originals as spares.

    Disc brake issues

Just to update this thread. l fixed the brakes, new discs didn't cure it so l had a more careful look at it, and discovered that the brake pads were not covering the entire braking surface. That is, they went off the top of the disc. l took off the calipers and reset the shims on both...

Help! Advice on a commuter bike

Put me down for one, message me on here when they are on sale. The Mirider is actually for my wife, and l will also need one. Yours looks perfect for what l want, with the larger wheels, more power, and a bit of suspension.

Looks very nice, l would definitely want one, and the 20" wheels will be great, what's the price likely to be?

Help! Advice on a commuter bike

The bike is great fun on all types of riding. l did 18 miles of mixed on/off road on the Mirider yesterday. lt's slower than my regular e-mtb of course, but it's not bad at all considering it's a compact folding bike with a single speed transmission and 16" wheels. Here's the ride on both...

What l will say is, the rear suspension on the Mirider makes a big difference to ride comfort.

Help! Advice on a commuter bike

Would a folding ebike be an advantage or not, for your intended use. Do you have somewhere safe to store a regular bike during the day? Not sure you need to buy a £3,000 ebike for a four mile commute, unless you plan to use it for general bike rides as well. One of the cheaper ebikes should do...

Mid-drive chain and drive train wear measurements

l was using all kinds of posh oils on my E-MTB and the chain reached the 0.5 wear limit after about 700 miles. After the second new chain at 1400 miles l had to change the cassette as well. After that l stopped using the posh oil and just oiled the chain with GT-85 after every ride. Well what...
