Help us build a better Ebike battery

This doesn't make sense, commercially avalible chargers charge via Direct Current (DC) using a fixed amperage and a ripple free voltage curve until the CC/CV phase has finished. Ours is fundamentally different to DC so it is not the same. You are right about the Bosch BMS, we are also...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

We are transitioning to this project at the moment, there is always an issue working with other OEM products as most of them have safety features, we will be able to bring out a 500Wh pack of our own if demand is high enough. This is why we wanted to set this topic up to discuss the...

Woosh, All of our systems have been made from scratch, the reason is our charger charges batteries in a fundamentally different way, I cannot get into the very fine details but it doesn't charge through DC so we have to develop our own BMS to sense and monitor cell is a different way. What it...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

To be honest I can understand why companies like Bosch and Shimano lock down their systems (at least the charger, BMS and cells) as we are going to do the same. The simple reason is safety and liability. If someone creates a cheaper generic battery pack to use on our charger and the cheaper...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

Hi John, That's the thing, our charging system is fundamentally different to the existing suppliers. We do not charge with DC and that's what makes us different technology wise; just because we have the same casing etc doesn't make us the same as market competitors. Our patents actually...

Our system could likely do a full recharge on a 500Wh pack in 30 minutes. That may suit you?

Yeah, but the LiPO in your phone has a very powerful BMS and they still have issues *cough* Samsung. That why I was saying a LiPo without BMS can be dangerous for large numbers of sales.

Help us build a better Ebike battery

Hi John, That is definitely something that we can focus on, it is alot easier for us to create a 1 hour charger once we have completed our 15 minute charger. I will keep you informed. Thanks

That either 30% extra weight or 30% less Wh would get you a pack tat charges in 15 minutes (I know not for everyone) but would also last 3 times as long as traditional Li-ion and Li-Po packs. Some pack last less than 18 months with regular use, so having 1500-2000 cycles is a very big pro. We...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

The thing is that alot of people think that the BMS is solely used for protection and balancing during charging; where actually you need the BMS on the pack during discharge to communicate with the controller and increasingly to shuttle power during use. The question I think is now not...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

We are a UK company, we are working with a couple of other companies to design, test and mass produce in the UK. Components and cells will be made in outside the UK however (as these are the only factories). These would be for the EU and US market. We will be aiming to produce our cheaper units...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

The problem you have with LiPo and no BMS is it is very dangerous for the average consumer and there is really no way a company could sell this as a unit. I like the range and charge time you mentioned though, we can always develop a cheaper 1 hour charger for our unit.

However I do really like the idea of being able to physically disconnect the pack from the BMS, for transport.

Help us build a better Ebike battery

Yes, we have been debating whether to keep the BMS in the charger unit or the battery itself; it was our decision to keep the BMS in the pack, the reason was that our BMS is an active system with nA quiescent (standby) consumption. So it is fairly sophisticated and we estimate that it would take...

We are looking at crank drive at the moment as our primary focus is on the battery pack. The main issue with hub motors is the excess strain on the rotor can cause huge headaches warranty wise.

Is it an OEM pack or did you build it yourself?

That sounds great, what is the pack that you are suing at the moment?

Help us build a better Ebike battery

Hi, We are not hacking the Bosch packs or motor system, we are making our own battery, BMS and Motor drive. I only mentioned Bosch as we want to compare with them favourably on price. We know we can do it, what we want to know are what features etc the community is looking for.

We are evaluating two different manufacturers at the moment and are not giving out those specs yet. What we want to know is what features you want/ problems & thoughts you have with your current setup and would you be interested in fast charging and why.
