Will the transition from fossil fuels be similar to that from Petrol to Diesel?

Crossover will come when fossil fuels are more expensive than alternatives / Bio fuel or Electric. Untill then you may as well sit tight. I can't see many people who are used to driving Audi / BMW's and other prestige cars swapping for one seater transport. Consumers will want there car...

Bafang conversion kits-differences in model numbers

The "Q" part of the model number denotes whether it is Front or Rear driving. If its a Q model it is a front model. Weight doesn't usually change that much with it being laced in a wheel as the rim and spokes are not much heavier - an generally weight is the overal deciding factor when it...

    De-restricting a cheap kit

I use mine for when I can't be bothered to ride. Doing 5 days a week when your going out or been on the pop the night before is a hassle. I don't want to compromise on my social outings by thinking I need to ok to ride the next morning ;-) Spoken like a true booze hound!

Finally got my kit build running!

Some good figures and I find my commute is the same time in the car. This is mainly due to me getting back into Birmingham city center with the car and virtually coming to a stand still most evenings that add on 10 mins. The bike I make those 10mins up ripping through the center and mowing...

    De-restricting a cheap kit

Have you actually fitted any torque arm's to that front kit? And what controller are you using with that?

    De-restricting a cheap kit

How about a direct drive motor. As you are already got a fair amount of leg strength just getting a direct drive would offer that higher speed rather than hill climbing which most people use electric bikes for. To get something perfect for your setup yod probably need a small battery pack. A...

    149mph electric bike

I watched some of this on previous events. Its jsut really bizzare listening to them hurtle down the lanes quietly companred to their combustion counterparts. I think it would be great to ride one and if ebikes are not the future I think motorbikes have a real place for electric.

    Ping battery rebuild

You don't have much luck by the sounds of it. Maybe avoid any Lipo then ;-)

    Ping battery rebuild

Failing that I'd buy the remaining 10ah pack @ 48v. Thats probably the next battery size I'd buy anyway. I don't use any more than 3.5amp hours and recharge at each stop so a smaller pack for me is fine.

    Bafang SWXK-5

Ive thought it was stressed more once the motor becomes warm and hence the nylon gears become warm and thus not as strong. But nrg is correct making sure your able to Pedal before applying power is the best way to make sure it doesn't harm the motor.

    Ping battery rebuild

Yes you can split packs down to re wire them in any config. Not really for the faint hearted though. Why do you want to sPlit the pack down anyway.

    Bafang SWXK-5

Quite a few standard kits hit Peaks of around 600watt on the 250watt hub motors. You could take the peak further but the motor will get warm to hot. There's not so much on the nylon gear stripping any more when you read on other forums. But pushing 1000watt out of it is pushing it. A safer...

    Hydraulic disk brakes

Indeed the feel and brake fade would be very good. But for the majority off the population I'd imagine standard disks are fine. Would be cheaper to retro fit a scooter brake master cylinder and caliper. They do luck cool though and I guess they give you some bragging rights.

Kalkhoff Agattu Range: 9 Charges of 18Ah Battery

How big is the 18ah battery. I just is not that much bigger than most 36v 10ah batteries considering the 18ah battery is about 30% increase in watt's. Glad to see the range is large though. Hope itt keeps you gonig for those 1100 cycles! At the moment with my battery I use up anywhere from...

    Electric-assist bike weight

But Flecc if you are on the overweight scale chances are your muscle percentage is lower becasue more of the weight is well blubber. I'm currently 13 stone. At my best athletic stage I was 11 stone. I know currently that now I am no way as stong as I was when I was lighter. I don't eat bad...

    Electric bike styling

I like how everyone knows the conventional triangle is the strongest basic shape. But its how small tweaks to angles, materials colours can help it stand out. Even small bends in the basic frame can give a design charateristic that will appeal. I'm hoping my next bike that will be a single...

Electric bike conversion kits - more advice please re drag, noise, robustness, etc.

Indeed I understand about the forces of weight on acceleration and hill climbing. However on this instance the use is only requiring 20%. What would the 20% use consist of? Is it a continued use of light assistance, or just when there's a hill only and then riding along without assistance all...
