    Tongxin freewheel problems ?

I see what you mean. It seems like the wheel stops spinning quicker than mine although that maybe down to the smaller sized wheel. It isn't difficult to take apart, as long as the cover unscrews ok. First remove the nuts on the spindle (and possibly circlip, i can't remember which side it...

    Tongxin freewheel problems ?

Jerry, does it feel like you are turning the motor when pedalling. That would be a sure sign of something jamming the freewheel. I have taken these things apart and have noticed that the freewheel assembly is very weak around the springs and bearings. Maybe there is a fragment of metal or ones...

    wheel build/rim help please?

Do a search on the www for 'spoke length calculators'. I have laced a couple wheels myself. There is a definate art to it, but it isn't difficult when you know how.I think i had 5 attempts at first. I bought my spokes from SJS and laced up a secondhand rim (doublewall). A good book on wheel...

    Battery Guarantees

Interesting. Maybe you can answer my question flecc. Is it possible then, by charging up a Ping battery to 100% (so all lights on the bms are illuminated) this would be, in fact, shortening it's life? If so, without monitoring the charge going into it, how would it be possible to extend it's...

    Group Buy on Tongxin Motors

Just thought i'd bring this thread to the top again. I'm after another motor (or more)either Tongxins, Bafang or Cute or whatever is available. It seems by reading some postings on ES that source's from China has all but dried up or long delays causing people to cancel their orders...

    Helmet debate... new twist

Hi everyone, sorry to drag this thread up again, but i wanted to share this with you all. So far i have kept out of the helmet debates, in my mind it's your choice whether you wear one or not. I have never worn a helmet in all my years of cycling. When i look back at the stupid things i did on...

Blimey, these controllers don't half get hot.

I have never noticed my controller getting anywhere near hot.Warm, yes but only after climbing a very steep hill. Wires get warm also. I guess if it's getting warm/hot, that is a good thing, dissipating heat from semi conductors proves the heatsink is working. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    home brewed

Hi Eddieo Fitting the Tongxin was easy. I just filed out the slots in the steel forks, made the slot a little deeper (to make sure the v brakes lined up with the rims). Both bikes had 100mm wide legs, so no cleareance problems. Battery choice is rearing it's head again. 7ah SLA's have been fine...

Hi Roger Welcome to the forum I have a question (or two) about your balancing circuit diagram. I want to make my own battery pack with a balancing circuit and your diagram has given me a few ideas. Am i right in thinking the reference voltage depends on the state of the cell voltage in the first...

How much have electric bikes improved?

I am not sure if you really do need all that power to go up a steep hill. It might seem like a strange comment. I guess it is down to how much effort the rider inputs. 1kw for speed yes, but i've found my 250watt hub motor will assist me on virtually any hill. If i can keep the bike moving at...

Hi John welcome to the forum. I don't post much, i just ask questions and add anything i think may (or not) be of interest to anyone. Personnally i like to see DIY homebuilt machines. Here's ours. Both run Tongxin Hub motors (modified)and yuasa 36Volt 7Ah Sealed lead acid batteries and my...

Has any one ever had their ebike stolen?

Locks If i can steer this thread back a little. How effective are the spiral cable locks? I've never tried to cut through one but i can imagine it would take quite a bit of effort. I can't imagine bolt cutters slicing through the wires cleanly whereas cheaper less substantial D locks i can. (i...

Has any one ever had their ebike stolen?

My converted mountain bike doesn't really look that attractive to thieves, but this week i have splashed out on a Marin urban bike that i intend to make electric. Suddenly i have become very anxious about it. It looks very nice and high tech and desirable (just like your cannondale). That is a...

Thank you Colin, blimey you got home quick! Sorry we didn't say adios, didn't realise you were heading to the station from that last roundabout. Yes we will have to organise another, maybe with a few more folks turning up perhaps and a bit better weather would be nice. I figured out i could...

    Tongxin stopped, any ideas?

Full throttle at low speeds will almost certainly increase current quite a bit especially on hills. It does seems that the controllers do not like to be worked hard. I would check the wiring first. Mine stopped on one occassion, i feared the worst but it was a connection i had made on the...
