Thank you forum! & a few thoughts about buying an e-bike.

I think dealers would run a mile from you after the way you carried on. It was entirely your own fault if you bought an unsuitable bike after trying it at the dealers. Then to expect them to refund you and take back a used bike because of your error was ridiculous. The bike was clearly not...

    Do you swing both ways?

I used to get numb hands and elbows on my motorbikes too, but after a much longer time. I used to get it on the MB I had a little while ago as well as my road bikes, but it’s always worse on a road bike. I think it’s mostly vibration. When I had Reynolds 531 bikes with curved forks the spring...

£1000 ebike for big fat man doing short commute with big hill

If the voucher can be used elsewhere then you have good options. The reason I suggested using it up at the store on a good bike for a grand and spending extra to get it converted was because as far as I know Halfords don’t sell any powerful e bikes, and that way you would get something in the...

£1000 ebike for big fat man doing short commute with big hill

Doesn’t he say it’s a Halfords scheme? I assume that means he has to buy the bike there? From what I’ve read they don’t have a lot of choice, or many powerful bikes. He could buy a good bike up to the grand limit and convert it or get it converted. He would end up with something very much fit...

According to KTM in a post a few months ago Bosch can tell if a dongle was fitted when they interrogate the software.

    Do you swing both ways?

Thanks. But many decades of riding different kinds of bikes, including a good few years being a semi serious roadie has taught me how to deal with numb hands and elbows and arse, and all the rest that gets cramped up.

    Do you swing both ways?

Yes, of course that is the reason they aren’t comfortable over longer distances. But I leaned forward much more on my road bikes so I was comparing the comfort of bars for my riding style. As we all do naturally. Personally I hate the sit up and beg riding position with all the weight on my arse...

    Do you swing both ways?

Yes better than normal grips for climbing. Not a patch on proper road bars though IMO.

    HEAD PROTECTION

They could get into your shorts just as easily. I wear lycra padded shorts under a pair of rugby shorts so I’ve got the happy tackle protected anyway.

    Do you swing both ways?

I’ve got palm shaped grips, but I have the bars set a bit lower than many with this type of bike to get out of the wind. So more weight is on the bars than would be that case with the usual more upright position. I did fit bar ends a couple of years ago when I bought a MB to hack around the...

    Do you swing both ways?

Those are the bars I have on my Kalkhoff with good grips too, and I get numb hands after an hour. I vastly prefer drop bars for the reasons I gave earlier. Each to his own.

    Do you swing both ways?

I agree with your points about straight bars, and however good the grips are your hands are still mostly on one place all the time and get numb. I vastly prefer road bars which give you the option of many places to grip for climbing or going fast, or just resting your hands; while the standard...

    Pedelec Police

I think several forces have been using them for a while. Just replacing the usual MBs cops ride in the cities though I imagine. They were using 250w ones just like every one else when they were technically illegal too. I expect they pursue gang kids on MBs selling drugs and such at times. They...

Dynamos and hub dynamos, Battery charging

Yes, if you cycled predominately in a hilly area it might have some merit. You are going downhill as often as uphill then and the possibility of recouping some energy must exist. Whether it would be enough to make it worthwhile even then I don’t know. It would obviously have to disengage when...

It’s not so easy with electric bikes which can be impossible to get approved. I suggest again that you do a search here because this topic has been done to death several times. Years ago I had a trials bike without lights which I used on the road in daylight hours with an exempted MOT. I’m not...

You are clearly aware of the possible implications of using an overpowered pedelec on the road, and seem concerned about it. But there is no difference in using it on or off road in law. The only place it would be legal would be on private land where there is no right of public access. There...

So hot that my controller stopped working

Yeah right. Typical Australian BS. The hottest place I’ve ever been was the Punjab in a heatwave in June about thirty five years ago. It was over 45 degrees in the shade and many locals were dying of it. There was no air con where I was staying so the only option was to stay indoors with the sun...

So hot that my controller stopped working

I didn't say it was causing your problem. I was replying to your Question about heat conducting tape. Black absorbs much more heat than white.

So hot that my controller stopped working

White tape will not absorb as much heat as black tape. The effect of the sun on a black surface is surprisingly large.
