    Integrated controllers in hub motors...

So what is all this fuss about wires? Exactly how many wires do you cut down on by having the controller in the hub? You still need wires into the controller, for brakes, LCD screen, throttle, headlamp power, any anti theft system, Battery wires, PAS... If all those wires have to feed all the...

The road users statistically most likely to cause casualties

I wear a helmet when I can (which is a snow boarding helmet), but they shouldn't be compulsory. We need to encourage as many people as possible to cycle and places where helmet wearing is mandatory tend to have fewer cyclists. In any case, your average cycle helmet is only designed to give...

    Cycling in icy/snowy conditions

What are they like on tarmac? Where we are it's rare to get any snow and there's only ice on the road when the council haven't gritted. For some reason I also don't feel confident on slippery surfaces on one of my bikes, whereas my other bike feels a lot more stable. Not sure why that should...

The road users statistically most likely to cause casualties

I see it often with cars where the day time lights are on, which fools the driver into thinking they have their main lights on. With street lighting on, it can be hard to realise the headlights aren't on.

Don't forget no lights at night *sigh*. Seen a lot of that lately.

    Cycling in icy/snowy conditions

I've cycled once this year. I took the back roads, thinking I would ease myself back into things after the Christmas break. But the road hadn't been salted. Got to a bend and it was like an ice rink and went straight off. landed heavily on the handle bars and cracked some ribs. So I'm waiting...

    Integrated controllers in hub motors...

Hmmm for how long? :) If you 3D print your own mounts you can make a clean looking yet flexible set set up.

    Integrated controllers in hub motors...

Seems like a fundamentally bad idea to have the controller in a hub. How is the controller supposed to stay cool? Also, you lose flexibility if you want a different controller, or your controller fails and you need to replace it.

    Woosh Rio crashing in style

Ouch, hope you are ok. Why though, were you riding on the pavement? Was it supposed to be a shared cycle path?

After ebike conversion, has anyone had a higher rate of broken spokes or bent wheels?

If you are going to the trouble of replacing all the spokes, you might want to think about getting a decent new rim at the same time.

This guy is really good and can do 1 mm increments: https://www.spokesfromryan.com/

After ebike conversion, has anyone had a higher rate of broken spokes or bent wheels?

I think another reason why there have been more broken spokes is that with larger hubs and a crossing pattern of 2, on a lot of the wheels I've seen there is quite a lot of spoke bend as they reach the rim. Maybe with thinner spokes the bend occurs along the length of the spoke and it's not so...

    Do pedal reflectors actually work?

I seem to remember those awful colours of the 70s and early 80s - Allegro Mustard/Beige...Yuk!

    Do pedal reflectors actually work?

Sadly, your "accident" could have been avoided. As bike riders, we are too conditioned to cycle as far over to the left as possible, usually right in the gutter, for the benefit of motor traffic. We need to cycle at least 75 cm from the kerb and not be afraid of taking the primary position when...

    Powabyke SLA Charger

As vfr says, the batteries are probably on their last legs. Even if they give a decent voltage when fully charged, it's no indication of the amount of capacity they have left. If they are more than a few years old, have not been looked after (ie charged up regularly), then getting 6 miles is...

Petition to increase speed assist limit on E bikes

It's been said that we have an unhealthy culture of fast cycling in this country and that is why people want e-bikes to go faster. However, I do not think this is the whole story. My feeling is that people want to go faster to reduce commute times through dangerous levels of traffic, poor...
