    Freego electric bikes

Yes, indeed. Jolly good show. All we need now is a new 50amp/hour battery for £45, that charges fully in 5 minutes! :)

    Overcharging

Hmmm, Interesting. I didn't realise the charge current varied so much during a full charge cycle. I quite often take opportunist top up charges when out and about. Suppose I've ridden a while and the charge is half used up. If I then place it on charge for approx 45 minutes, will it charge...

    Police

I too appear to suffer with this paranoia. I don't think my subconcious mind has accepted that I'm perfectly legal, but I tend to peddle hard and make like I'm really trying to conceal the huge power hidden within. I guess its just that riding Motorcycles all my life, and the customary 'Cat &...

    What should I try?

Hi Danno, I reached the same conclusion as you, at the last gasp it was the Freego or the Wisper. I actually bought the Freego which has been fantastic for the 500 miles I've done so far, but i think I might have been just as happy with the Wisper as they are very similar and I think use the...

    Throttle use Poll

Thank you David for your stalwart endeavours on our behalf. Perhaps the powers that be may, for once, reach an informed conclusion to their discussions, such that we may all benefit. If this goes ahead, how long do you think it will be before higher wattage bikes are retailed?

    Crank drive versus hub drive

Yes, that might do the trick. I was thinking, that as the hub drives have a planetary gear set up, an interchangeable idler gear or something that would allow the motor to spin at maximum torque whilst driving the bike at about 6 mph. That should be able to climb a tree. Once over the steep...

    Crank drive versus hub drive

As mentioned, I would have a Bosch crank drive on a proper mountain bike, and use it to climb the steep chalk hills on the Downs, then plummet down, and repeat. For everything else, I prefer a hub drive. In an ideal world, perhaps some sort of hub drive gearbox could be installed, so to allow...

This is the best e bike

Nope, sorry, you're all wrong. The Freego Eagle is by far the best bike ever, its got a side stand, a stripe down the side and a very neat reflective patch on the rear of the seat, just under where my bum goes. Beat that then!

    Throttle use Poll

I originally thought I would be a throttle only chap, but within 50 miles I was on pedelec 90% of the time. I had underestimated the childhood instilled 'urge to pedal'. I mostly go everywhere on max assist and dont use any throttle. Where I do prefer throttle is perhaps on seafront...

    Bad News

I guess that any minority activity will be subject to the rigours of prejudice, nimbyism and intolerance. In a society obsessed with regulating everyone into a sort of conformist mediocrity, there will always be the detractors, those who seek to curtail everything outside their own sphere of...

    e-Bike of the Year 2011

I guess if they have not experienced anything else, they might not notice any Brick Wall, but I spotted the issue within 30 seconds of riding, but probably because I had become accustomed to a hub drive. If I had to go crank drive I would prefer the Bosch, as the Panasonic (probably an...

    e-Bike of the Year 2011

When I tried the Bosch system I found the 'Brick Wall' very noticeable which greatly compromised the bikes cruising abilities as at 16 mph you are on your own with no help at all. It was the same with the Panasonic system, in the cruise at around the 15 mph mark its like being pulled by a slack...

    bosch batteries.

Well, at that price I will certainly not be troubling Bosch with any of my hard-earned readies. I can't imagine a more efficient way to destroy the residual values of any bike fitted with a Bosch System. Thanks for the warning!

Is enough being done to bring new consumers to e-bikes?

In such a small industry that can't afford aggressive marketing, I think the 'bums on seats' system is the best tool the industry has. Almost to a man, people have no awareness of E-Bikes. During a recent visit to my local boozer, 6 folk had a go on mine. They all loved it. One of them bought...

New poll: How did you come across e-bikes

For me, I had occasion to try a homebuilt experimental E-Bike that was pretty dangerous, it gashed my leg and tore a lump out of my trousers. Despite the injury I was hooked on the magic sensation of riding without effort, and immediately went home to Google 'Electric Bicycles', found this...
